Reports to: Workforce Development Manager, Director of Programs and Operations
Location: Reno, Nevada
Position Summary:
This position oversees all aspects of the Student Ambassador Program and Nevada AHEC Scholars, including recruitment, retention, logistics, event planning, and relationship-building with community partners. The role ensures grant deliverables are met and supports student growth through coaching, mentoring, and group development sessions that build confidence, skills, and leadership. Responsibilities also include developing and implementing strategic plans to expand both programs statewide, especially in underserved and rural communities. The position regularly engages with internal and external stakeholders and produces annual program and statewide impact reports. Additional duties include maintaining the resource library and curriculum hub, supporting Community Health Advocates with implementation and instruction, and managing participant data for reporting and continuous improvement.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction and restructuring of the Student Ambassador and AHEC Scholars Programs to ensure sustainability, scalability, and alignment with statewide workforce goals and public health priorities in underserved communities.
- Lead recruitment efforts to diversify Student Ambassador and Nevada AHEC Scholar cohorts through strategic academic and community partnerships.
- Oversee and support volunteer engagement and responsibilities to ensure alignment with program objectives and participant support needs.
- Facilitate job shadowing, experiential learning placements, and professional engagement opportunities for students as part of their program participation.
- Support the Workforce Development Manager and Program Director with needs assessments, data collection, longitudinal tracking, evaluations, and comprehensive progress reports.
- Conduct various strategies to ensure that Student Ambassadors and Nevada AHEC Scholars programs, projects and grant/contract deliverables and stated outcomes are achieved by established deadline;
- Prepare, modify, and file reports and documentation as necessary, including summaries of activities and incidents, post-program overviews, recommendations for future services, and analysis of overall program effectiveness;
- Collaborate with students to plan and execute annual signature events, such as orientations, networking activities, and recognition ceremonies, while supporting program sustainability through innovative fundraising strategies and engagement initiatives.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal departments, external stakeholders, community partners, and agencies to support program and grant objectives.
- Serve as the primary liaison between students and community partners, conducting outreach, research, and producing communications and newsletters to strengthen existing relationships and cultivate new experiential and engagement opportunities.
- Enhance student experiences by offering continuing education, training, workshops, and related initiatives;
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social work, healthcare administration, public administration, or a related field.
- At least one (1) year of relevant experience in delivering, coordinating, or developing educational, workforce development, or community-based health programs.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to engage diverse student populations and community stakeholders.
- Experience working with underserved or rural communities, or a strong interest in supporting equity in education and healthcare access.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to persuade, encourage, inform, and stimulate general interest and enthusiasm in others;
- Proficiency in public speaking and technical communication is crucial, as this role involves presenting information in front of large audiences;
- Ability to strategically plan, monitor, and evaluate program outcomes;
- Experience with the following software or similar: Salesforce, and appropriate software packages and platforms for data analysis and presentation/communication of High Sierra AHEC information, such as Canva, Piktochart, Constant Contact, and Canvas Learning Management System;
- Ability to follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision;
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills are essential, as the role involves onboarding and interviewing prospective students;
- Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills combined with an ability to prioritize demands;
- Ability to work collaboratively and responsively with multiple partners.
- Experience in volunteering, coaching, or mentorship is highly valued, as these skills support student engagement, development, and program success
Work environment:
Generally, works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting, evening and weekend hours sometimes required. Must possess the ability and willingness to perform job-related travel, majority within the state of Nevada.
License required: Must have valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands:
Occasional physical effort required to lift boxes of supplies or equipment weighing approximately up to 25 pounds; stooping, bending and reaching when stacking boxes and supplies. Demands vision, manual dexterity, sitting long periods of times, writing, typing, grasping, driving and speaking.
