VMG is seeking a versatile and spiritually grounded Protestant Musician to provide musical leadership during Sunday worship services, midweek rehearsals, and special events for the Protestant congregations at Joint Base Charleston. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a range of worship music styles including gospel, traditional hymns, and contemporary praise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accompany and lead music during Protestant Sunday services at either the Air Base or Weapons Station.
- Direct volunteer musicians, praise teams, and/or choirs as applicable.
- Collaborate with the Protestant Service Chaplain to select worship music in line with the service theme and liturgical calendar.
- Lead and organize midweek rehearsals for scheduled participants.
- Support special services (e.g., holiday programs, memorials) and coordinate extra rehearsals as needed.
- Set up, monitor, and take down music and sound equipment before and after services.
- Submit CTOF funding requests for music supplies and equipment.
- Ensure adherence to Chapel facility procedures and participate in required training.
Education and/or Experience
Required:
- Ability to read music and lead congregational or ensemble worship.
- Experience performing and directing music in Protestant worship contexts.
- Familiarity with worship genres including gospel, traditional, and contemporary.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Worship Arts, or related discipline.
- Experience in military or multi-denominational environments.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must pass required government background screening.
- Regular availability on Sundays and designated rehearsal times.
- Commitment to maintaining professional decorum and spiritual integrity.
