Description
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform a wide range of semi-skilled technical work in the maintenance and repair of City facilities, specifically irrigation systems and landscape. Employees in this classification perform all work according to established safety standards, codes, and regulations applicable to the work. Employees in this classification have previous experience in the trade, and can perform tasks independently, though work remains subject to review and inspection during and upon completion of assigned tasks.
Examples of Duties
- Performs various routine and minor facilities improvement tasks, specifically work related to irrigation systems and landscape.
- Activates sprinkler systems and checks for proper operation, replaces broke pipes, sprinkler heads, control valves and pumps, checks for proper coverage and adjusts as necessary.
- Assists with the installation of irrigation systems, utilizing trenches and physical labor.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools for both electrical and mechanical repairs, e.g., air wrenches, air hammer, electric drill, saw, air compressor.
- Operates the MIR ICC Pro Computer system to check for issues.
- Performs inspections of existing irrigation systems (wet checks).
- Performs repairs on main breaks and broken heads.
- Troubleshoots system checking wiring, electronics, valves, and pumps.
- Installs new irrigation systems or revamps existing systems.
- Operates trencher while repairing mains.
- Operates water tanker and hand waters landscape.
- Performs technical maintenance, replacement tasks and repairs to irrigation systems.
- Inspects, locates, and marks city owned irrigation property and equipment.
- Assists and responds to emergency situations related to irrigation systems.
- Performs some administrative duties, such as paperwork for all jobs, parts used, hours, actions taken, preventive maintenance scheduling.
- Supports departmental activities such as special events and projects
- Assists with routine landscape inspections.
- Picks up trash and removes dead plant materials and weeds.
- Removes tree support systems.
- Installs small plant materials.
Typical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class E Florida Driver's License.
- One (1) year of experience in semi-skilled laboring or general maintenance in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Backflow Prevention Certification, preferred.
