Job Overview
The purchasing agent is responsible for the procurement of all items, products, raw materials, equipment, tooling, and consumables required for operations at RESCo. Their responsibilities include developing purchasing strategies, maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, coordinating with internal teams regarding their supply needs, and overseeing all purchasing. A purchasing agent requires excellent communication and negotiating skills.
Responsibilities and Duties
The responsibilities and duties of the purchasing agent are listed below. As Reliable Equipment grows and transforms, responsibilities and duties of the purchasing agent may also grow and/or transform.
- Seek reliable vendors and suppliers to provide quality goods and raw materials at reasonable prices, while maintaining successful relationships, and upholding these vendors and suppliers to RESCo’s quality standards.
- Manage daily purchasing activities, negotiating prices and contracts, while developing and implementing purchasing strategies.
- Review technical specifications for raw materials, components, tooling, and equipment.
- Maintain the supplier database, purchase records and specifications, and related documentation.
- Coordinate with the inventory and production departments to maintain sufficient raw and finished goods inventory.
- Facilitate the proper processing of purchases by generating and validating purchase orders.
- Coordinate with the engineering and production departments to examine and validate raw materials demand, validating materials are ordered to correct specifications required by production, engineering, and quality.
- Prepare cost estimates and release schedules to operations on current and future purchases and/or requisitions.
- Receipt of good entry in EPR system
- Assume responsibility of contacting supplier regarding returns and/or replacements
- Coordinate with Accounting staff and suppliers regarding pricing/quantity discrepancies
- Answering phones – 2nd tier
- Print work orders and part blueprints
- Counting raw materials and proficiency with understanding the materials being ordered and received
- Counting and producing finished good inventory for Fabrication Shop
- Maintain and review Vendor Logistics and Parts to Purchase Boards in Access. Assume responsibility of contacting supplier when items are late or need to be expedited.
- Closing purchase orders when orders are fulfilled
Qualifications
The qualifications required of the purchasing agent are listed below. Assessment of qualifications is not limited to the following requirements.
- High school or equivalent
- 5 years+ working in a manufacturing environment
- 3 years+ purchasing/requisitioning experience
- Quality assurance experience a plus
- Strong communication skills
- Attentive to detail
- Strength in organization and planning
- Strong critical thinking and negotiation skills
- Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management
- Proficient in Office365 and ERP utilization
- Capable of handling multiple projects
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in technical, manufacturing, or logistics field
- Minimum of 2 years’ Procurement experience
- Highly proficient in ERP systems
- Analytical and communication skills
- Results driven and self-motivated
