Summary
We are seeking a Laborer to join our team at Rochester Welding Company, Inc. This role is essential for supporting our operations and ensuring the efficient production of high-quality metal components. You will be part of a dedicated team contributing to American manufacturing quality.
As a Qualifying/ Finishing Laborer, you will be responsible for finishing and qualifying metal parts through manual grinding, polishing, and inspection processes. Your role is essential to ensuring that metal components meet strict quality standards before they proceed to the next stage of production or shipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual grinding, deburring, and polishing of metal parts to ensure smooth surfaces and meet dimensional specifications.
- Inspect finished parts to verify they meet quality standards and tolerances using measurement tools.
- Set up and adjust grinding and polishing equipment for specific jobs and material types.
- Perform preventative maintenance on grinding tools and other finishing equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and specifications to understand part requirements.
- Collaborate with production teams to meet production schedules and maintain product quality.
- Complete quality inspections at various stages of the finishing process to ensure consistency.
- Document work performed, including any quality issues or deviations from specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S principles.
- Adhere to all safety standards, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Knowledge and adhere to ISO 9001 and QMS procedures.
- Adhere to RWCI’s 5 A’s: Attendance, Accountability, Attitude, Aptitude, and Appearance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Willingness to learn new skills and processes related to metal fabrication.
- 2-4 years of experience in metal finishing, including grinding and polishing.
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical test.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
Tools & Equipment:
- Grinding Tools: Hand-held grinders, belt sanders, and deburring tools used for finishing metal parts.
- Polishing Equipment: Buffing machines and other polishing tools for achieving smooth surface finishes.
- Measurement Tools: Calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision instruments for quality checks.
- Material Handling Equipment: Hoists, pallet jacks, and forklifts (if certified) for moving heavy metal parts.
- PPE: Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing to ensure safety during operations.
Physical Demands:
- Lifting: Frequently required to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Standing: Must be able to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours) during shifts.
- Bending/Stooping: Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling to operate grinding tools and handle parts.
- Manual Dexterity: Requires hand-eye coordination and strong grip strength for handling tools and finishing parts.
- Visual Acuity: Must be able to visually inspect parts and read measurement instruments accurately.
- Reaching: Regular reaching above and below shoulder height to adjust equipment or move materials.
- Pushing/Pulling: Occasional pushing and pulling of carts and equipment.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
