Position Summary:

This role is responsible for maintaining and executing the quality program, overseeing inspections, managing documentation, managing QC inspectors, and interfacing with regulatory bodies and third-party inspectors (Authorized Inspectors).
Essential Functions:
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s ASME Quality Control Program (QCP).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Authorized Inspector (AI), State Inspector, and the National Board Inspector.
- Oversee fabrication, assembly, welding, installation, testing, and documentation processes for ASME Section I and VIII projects.
- Oversee fabrication, welding, installation, testing, and documentation processes for ASME B31 & BPE projects.
- Develop and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications per ASME and AWS codes.
- Maintain company welder continuity on a monthly basis.
- Monitor and audit production and inspection activities to ensure code and specification compliance.
- Manage and maintain quality records, including material traceability, traveler packages, NDE reports, and code packages. Ensure documents are timely filed with the National Board, State Inspectors, and Authorized Inspectors and company document retention is in accordance with applicable codes and company Quality Control Program.
- Manage NDE subcontractors to ensure proper code compliance.
- Manage heat treating and machining subcontractors to ensure proper code compliance.
- Conduct internal audits and prepare for external audits (ASME Joint Review, customer audits, etc.).
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and project management to address and resolve quality issues.
- Prepare and monitor ASME QC budget.
- Perform design calculations on new and repair projects for ASME pressure vessels, boilers, and boiler parts (steam spools, headers, etc.).
- Prepare proposals for ASME code projects.
- Recruit, train, and supervise QC inspectors and NDE personnel to ensure inspection practices align with code and project requirements.
- Investigate nonconformities, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Stay current on updates to ASME, NBIC, AWS, API, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
- Comply with federal and state law, regulations, and all Company rules.
- Participate in online and in-person training and other educational opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Any other job-related activities requested by immediate supervisor.
- Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent preferred. High school education required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality control or quality assurance role in a pressure vessel, boiler, or piping environment.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, customer relations, collaboration, and analytical skills.
- Strong working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section I, VIII Div 1 (Div 2 a plus), IX, and B31.1/B31.3 piping codes.
- Pressure vessel and B31 piping design calculations experience.
- Experience managing ASME code stamp programs (U, S, PP, R, etc.).
- Familiarity with National Board requirements and joint review processes.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). Certified Radiographic Inspector (CRI) a plus.
- Current NDE Level II in PT with familiarity of other NDE methods (RT, MT, UT, VT) and coordination with Level II/III inspectors.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, and project specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality management software systems.
- This position requires long hours sitting, standing, climbing, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and using office equipment, including telephones and computers and may also require some light lifting of files and materials and carrying other documentation to different departments from time to time.
- The position may also involve some repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and elbows.
- This position can be performed in an office or jobsite work environment, which can be indoors or outdoors. Can be in the elements. The noise level is normal for office and industrial environments.
- This position may require a flexible schedule, periodic overtime, and overnight travel as needed.
