Job Overview
The Fabric Assistant supports the Fabric team in maintaining seasonal records, sourcing and developing fabrics, and enhancing technical skills. The ideal candidate is innovative, curious, and possesses a proactive problem-solving approach. They thrive in a collaborative environment, adept at building relationships, and capable of navigating complex challenges. A background in textiles and familiarity with retail product development are preferred.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with material team leads to source and develop materials globally
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive fabric library, fabric standards, and fabric boards
- Maintain regular communication with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product Development (PD), overseas offices, and fabric suppliers
- Create and manage a fabric tracking chart to ensure accurate and up-to-date information for cross-functional use
- Utilize various tools such as the mill matrix, cost negotiation chart, FIS, and calendars
- Enter fabric data into the PLM system promptly and accurately
- Receive, process, and organize fabric collections and cuttings
- Ensure fabric selections align with fabric strategy and sustainability goals
- Foster relationships with vendors, mills, and the materials team
- Manage multiple brands encompassing both knits and wovens
- Attend material exhibitions and fabric appointments to research trends, develop seasonal collections, and discover potential suppliers
- Participate in milestone meetings and update fabric information accordingly
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
- Coordinate supplier meetings for seasonal development and trend research, ensuring alignment on fabric choices and associated costs
- Support PD and Design teams throughout the proto and bulk development phases to ensure cost and quality alignment
Skills You Will Need
Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with material team leads and cross-functional teams, including Design, Product Development (PD), overseas offices, and fabric suppliers
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using various tools such as the mill matrix, cost negotiation chart, FIS, calendars, and PLM systems. Proficient in Microsoft Suite and design tools like Canva and Adobe XD
Communication: Maintain regular communication with internal and external partners, fostering relationships with vendors, mills, and the materials team. Excellent communication and presentation skills
Project Management: Manage multiple brands encompassing both knits and wovens, attend material exhibitions, participate in milestone meetings, and coordinate supplier meetings for seasonal development and trend research
Strategic Alignment: Ensure fabric selections align with fabric strategy and sustainability goals, and support PD and Design teams throughout proto and bulk development phases
Problem-Solving: Possess an entrepreneurial mindset with proactive problem-solving skills
Teamwork: Strong team player with excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to navigate challenges
Adaptability: Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, adept at handling ambiguity
Creativity and Technicality: Ability to balance creativity, technicality, and strategic thinking
Who You Are
- Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience in a materials-focused role preferred
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel
- Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms
- Requires close vision
- Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs
