About the position
The Ready-Mix Concrete Plant Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the Ready-Mix Concrete plant and its associated equipment. This position involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various machinery and systems within the plant, contributing to the overall safety and productivity of operations.
Installation, Preventative Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Emergency Repairs of Plant Equipment
Assist with and perform other reasonable tasks as requested by his/her direct supervisor.
· Must be able to read and understand equipment installation instructions, technical specifications, and/or architectural drawings and be able to follow steps to properly and safely install various types of equipment used in the production of ready-mix concrete. This includes but is not limited to air compressors; hydraulic and pneumatic pistons, valves, and gates; conveyors; radial stacker conveyors; screw conveyors; weigh batchers and scales, various motors, drives, gears, and pulleys; electrical equipment such as primary and secondary disconnects, breakers, and switchgears; miscellaneous steel components.
· Must have a fundamental knowledge and be proficient at welding mild steel using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW/stick) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG) techniques.
· Must have a fundamental understanding of electrical safe work practices and be familiar with 110v control wiring up to 480v 3-phase electrical wiring and be able to troubleshoot simple and complex electrical issues. Must be able to check electrical continuity using a voltage meter in 110v, 220v 2-phase. 220v/440v 3-phase environments.
· Must be able to install piping systems comprised of galvanized, PVC, rubber, and copper components for air lines up to one (1) inch OD and water lines up to three (3) inch OD.
· Must be able to use reason and understanding to troubleshoot and repair issues with plant equipment in a manner that will safely resolve the issues
Operation of Mobile Equipment
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a rubber-tire front-end loader.
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a backhoe.
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a mini excavator
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a skid steer.
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a towable scissor lift.
· Must safely and proficiently be able to operate a bucket truck.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of the Maintenance Technician position are essential to the performance of this job. Any change in these demands would fundamentally change the job. The physical demands require that the Maintenance Technician be able to do the following:
· Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time often on wet, slick, and/or uneven terrain or surfaces.
· Must be able to work in dark and/or dimly lit conditions.
· Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and/or toting up to fifty (50) Lbs.
· Must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, push/pull, climb, kneel, twist, reach, pinch, pick, and feel.
· Must be able work both inside and outside, in the heat and cold, and around moving equipment. Approximately seventy (70) percent of all work will be performed outdoors.
· Must be able to work at heights exceeding four (4) feet.
· Must be able to climb on to, into, and out of the assigned company vehicle and other equipment several times a day.
· Must be able to manipulate equipment controls safely and accurately by pushing, pulling, squeezing, and turning levers, knobs, switches, buttons, wheels, and valves.
· Must be able to use various hand tools, power tools and equipment in a safe manner to perform job functions.
RESTRICTIONS
The following restrictions apply to the Maintenance Technician position:
· Must maintain a suitable driving record with the Department of Transportation.
· Hold or be willing to obtain a Class B CDL if asked.
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
· Must be able to read a standard tape measure to 1/16”.
· Must be able to follow written and oral instructions using common sense understanding and reasoning.
· Must be proficient in basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
