Role Description:
This remote opportunity offers the flexibility to work full-time, part-time, or as a supplemental income source. As a Field Underwriter, you have the freedom to set your own schedule and operate in the time zones and states that align with your needs.
In this role, you’ll work closely with families seeking coverage, assess their needs, evaluate risk, and recommend the best coverage solutions personalized to their unique situation. Your responsibilities will include submitting applications to the most suitable carriers and facilitating the underwriting process.
Our brokerage provides agents with quality, complaint, pre-qualified leads through direct mail, call-ins, and digital marketing—eliminating the need for cold calling. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a commitment to delivering outstanding client service.
Compensation Structure:
This is a 1099 independent contractor position with commission rates starting at 80% of Annual Premium Value (APV) and scaling up to 130% APV, plus bonuses and potential equity ownership opportunities. Once you earn a commission rate promotion, it’s permanent—there are no maintenance requirements to keep it.
Agents earn commissions based on their personal production and receive overrides on their agency’s policies, calculated as the difference between their contract rate and the rate of their agents. Commissions are advanced, with 75% paid upon policy issuance and the remaining 25% distributed in months 10, 11, and 12. Agents can achieve legal ownership at the 105% contract level with six active writers—without the need for a capital investment.
There are no income caps or mandatory quotas. New part-time agents typically earn $3,000-$5,000 per month for 15-20 hours of work (about six policies), translating to approximately $36,000-$60,000 per year. Many start part-time with flexible scheduling before transitioning to full-time. Full-time agents commonly earn $10,000-$15,000 per month (15-20 placed policies), totaling $120,000-$180,000 annually, with additional passive income from agency overrides.
Beyond commissions, agents have access to carrier and brokerage bonuses, as well as exclusive incentive trips, making this an opportunity with significant earning potential and long-term growth.
