Position Overview:
I-2-I Solutions, Inc., a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), is seeking a qualified Environmental Water Sampling Technician to conduct field-based water sample collection only at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.
This is a field operations role , you will not be responsible for laboratory testing, analysis, or digital reporting. You will work closely with I-2-I Solutions’ project manager and support partners to ensure that water samples are collected properly, preserved, documented, and transported according to federal compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect potable, utility, and environmental water samples from designated points throughout the VA Medical Center campus
- Measure and document field parameters for each sample, including:
- Temperature
- pH
- Chlorine residual
- Label, preserve, and package samples according to CDC ELITE, ISO 11731, and VA Directive 1061 standards
- Maintain accurate chain-of-custody records and field notes for all collected samples
- Coordinate with hospital staff and I-2-I Solutions to access sampling locations
- Prepare and deliver or ship samples to the designated certified laboratory within 72 hours of collection
- Perform return/retest sampling (up to 30 visits/year) following water system chlorination or remediation events
- Ensure proper use and care of sample collection equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Sample Collection Scope & Frequency:
The water sampling technician will collect approximately 10–18 samples per week, including weekly SPS critical water samples, monthly potable and cooling tower samples, quarterly metals and Legionella tests, and biweekly HPC samples. Additional emergency retests (2–4/month) may be required following water system remediation.
Required Qualifications:
- 1+ year experience in environmental water sampling, field service tech, or water quality roles
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper sampling protocol per CDC ELITE and ISO 11731
- Familiarity with hospital, industrial, or municipal water systems preferred
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
- Strong attention to detail, procedural compliance, and cleanliness
- Ability to work independently on nights and early mornings
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs (coolers, water containers, shipping boxes)
Preferred but Not Required:
- OSHA 10/30 General Industry Certification
- IATA or DOT training for biological sample shipping
- Familiarity with VA or federal healthcare facilities
- Prior experience using tablets or digital forms for chain-of-custody records
