Responsible for assisting with the general park and public grounds maintenance to ensure appropriate and timely completion of projects, including but not limited to landscape installation and park, median, public building, and cemetery upkeep.

DUTIES
- Operate light-to-medium duty equipment to perform maintenance tasks to meet Park Maintenance Standards of safety and aesthetics guidelines and policies.
- Perform minor construction and park facility repairs using skilled trade practices.
- Inspect equipment, structures, and playgrounds for safety compliance; perform minor maintenance and report issues to supervisor.
- Assist crew in coordinating day-to-day tasks.
- Respond to after-hour callouts for issues, including but not limited to, high water, storm damage, and ice and snow removal/control.
- Perform custodial duties for park restrooms, pavilions, concessions, and other park areas.
- Assist other Departments/Divisions, including tasks outside of normal responsibilities, as needed.
- Perform operational support for special events and tournaments.
- Ensure athletic fields are prepared for games, practices, and tournaments by performing general maintenance and construction including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, litter control, playground maintenance, and tree work.
- Perform landscape installation and routine maintenance, including but not limited to, general landscape maintenance and installation in parks, medians/right of ways (ROW’s), public buildings, and cemeteries to ensure visually appealing appearance.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Highschool diploma or equivalent,
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Knowledge of maintenance and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per department/division.
- Knowledge of fertilizers, pesticides, turf, shrubs, trees, and ornamentals that are adapted to North Central Texas.
- Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, mobile devices, and other software systems to complete work.
- Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and in written forms.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to follow directives to independently complete multiple work tasks, be flexible to changing work environment in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.
- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age.

SAFETY
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment and a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic hand tools up to heavy equipment including, but not limited to, tractors with implements, backhoe, skid steer loader, dump truck, trencher, mowers, bobcats, front-end loaders, operation of a motor vehicle, chain saws, weed-eaters, sod cutters, field groomers, painters, and sprayers; wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Posture: Prolonged balancing, standing, walking, and climbing; occasional sitting; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Works outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, no/low light, insects, poison oak/ivy, dust, debris, odor, chemicals, vibration, fumes, confined spaces, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work rotating work schedules, special events and overtime including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
