Position Title: Senior Project Manager

Location: Remote (MUST reside within Canada) with some opportunity for travel

Employment Type: Full-time

Duration: This is a maternity‑leave coverage position. Based on current grant funding, the anticipated term is approximately 6 months. There may be potential for continued employment with SCWIST depending on organizational needs, funding and performance; however, extension beyond the initial term cannot be guaranteed.

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a national non-profit organization working to create an environment where girls, women and gender-diverse individuals in Canada can pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without barriers. We provide mentorship, leadership development, and outreach programs that encourage participation and excellence in STEM. Through advocacy and partnerships, we work to remove systemic barriers, build inclusive networks, and support long-term career advancement in STEM fields.

Position Overview

SCWIST is seeking a strategic and equity-driven Project Manager to lead initiatives in our Policy, Advocacy, and Research team. The initiatives include STEM Together, a national research and training initiative funded through the Skills for Success program, our System Change initiative fund through WAGE, and our Youth National STEM Expo . In partnership with key stakeholders, these projects explore systemic barriers in STEM employment while providing targeted skills training for underrepresented groups including girls, women and gender-diverse individuals who are Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQI+, or newcomers.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic project manager with a talent for guiding complex work plans to fruition, fostering strong, relational partnerships, and ensuring projects are delivered with care, accountability, and impact. They have a vision for long-term, reciprocal collaboration and a commitment to nurturing relationships that extend beyond transactional exchanges. With a passion for SCWIST’s mission and a deep commitment to supporting girls, women, gender-diverse people, equity-deserving, and underrepresented communities in STEM, they will work closely with SCWIST staff, partners, and stakeholders to cultivate shared learning, support, and impact throughout every phase of the project.

Responsibilities

Project Implementation & Partner Relationship Management

  • Cultivate momentum through collaboration, partnership and strategic alignment.
  • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders, partners, and SCWIST team members to report on milestones and share updates.
  • Foster strong collaboration with project partners to support seamless implementation and achievement of shared outcomes.
  • Establish and manage detailed work plans and schedules to ensure effective sequencing and resource allocation for all project activities.
  • Oversee project execution in alignment with approved plans, ensuring that files and documentation are securely maintained.
  • Collaborate with SCWIST staff and project partners to develop high-level project documents, including work plans, implementation timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Monitor and track progress of internal activities and partner contributions through regular meetings and reporting systems, adjusting plans as needed to meet project goals.
  • Manage the implementation of research projects, coordinating activities from project scoping and study planning through participant engagement, data collection, analysis, and reporting in collaboration with the research team.
  • Provide the research team logistical support for example, supporting research participant recruitment and scheduling for focus groups .
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of research outputs, including reports, presentations, summaries, and practical resources that communicate findings to partners, funders, and relevant audiences.
  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of the Youth STEM Expo, establishing event objectives, programming, budgets, production schedules, and logistics in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Manage event coordination across speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, and volunteers, overseeing venue requirements, registration, accessibility, technical needs, and participant communications.
  • Oversee event-day operations and contingency planning, coordinating staff and volunteers, troubleshooting emerging issues, and supporting a safe, accessible, and engaging experience for youth and other participants.
  • Work with SCWIST management and finance teams to monitor expenditures and ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Lead planning and actively participate in key project activities such as training, workshops, meetings, and conferences.
  • Contribute strategic insights that promote continuous learning, adaptation, and improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects or initiatives, ideally in the non-profit sector.
  • PMP or CAPM certification, an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning and implementation, including work plans, budgets, schedules, and reporting.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to deliverables and team coordination.
  • Proven ability to manage partnerships and stakeholder relationships including coordinating across diverse communities, sectors, and geographies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with diverse audiences and produce high-quality documentation.
  • Capacity to adapt and problem-solve in an evolving project environment.
  • Passion for SCWIST’s mission and commitment to supporting women, gender diverse people, equity-deserving, and underrepresented communities in STEM.
  • Lived experience and/or meaningful engagement with equity-deserving communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, newcomer, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and youth who experience disability, neurodivergence, or other forms of difference that shape their participation.
  • Background or experience in STEM is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while fostering collaboration.
  • Familiarity with collaborative project management and organizational systems management software (such as Asana, Volunteer Hub, Google Workspace, Power BI).
  • Completion of online GBA+ (Gender-Based Analysis Plus) certification within one month of position start.
  • Some travel may be required as needed regionally or nationally to attend meetings, convenings or conferences.

Other Details:

  • Location: Remote (Applicant MUST reside within Canada)
  • Schedule: Full-time employment (Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, infrequent weekend work mainly around event attendance/participation)
  • Salary Range: $90,000 to $95,000 per annum based on 35 hour work week, based on experience.
