Description
The Sonographer provides quality care to patients undergoing Ultrasound procedures. Demonstrates full knowledge of Ultrasound procedures and equipment. Additional duties include but may not be limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate the patient experience by greeting patients, explaining pre- and post-procedure instructions, and verifying patient’s identity. Utilize AIDET Principles in all patient and provider encounters.
- Perform ultrasound exams using proper protocols and positioning techniques, transporting patients safely, verifying accuracy of orders and documenting patient information.
- Document the patient’s exam through data entry, report retrieval, scanning and recording the exam details in the electronic medical record system.
- Conduct environmental and safety procedures including cleaning and sterilizing the exam room and equipment. Evaluate and maintain supply levels and practice safe patient maneuvers.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge and licensure through educational workshops, professional publications and societies.
- Prepare ultrasound equipment and exam room ensuring proper sterilization and safety procedures are followed
- Use positioning tools and safety equipment properly to ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the imaging
- Performing breast imaging procedures such as biopsies, stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies, and cyst aspirations.
- Interpreting images and providing results to physicians.
- Selecting the appropriate settings and adjusting the patients’ positions accordingly.
- Review images before sending to the physician to ensure a clear image of the area requested
- Use ethical judgment and critical thinking skills to perform diagnostic imaging safely
- Other job duties as required.
Experience: 3 to 5 years’ experience as a sonographer.
