Job Summary
The Testing Center Specialist coordinates, administers, oversees, proctors, and monitors all aspects of testing in the Academic Assistance Center. Testing includes placement test for admission to Jackson State Community College, Jackson States online and TN eCampus’ online classes, make-ups for on-ground classes, special accommodations (approved by Dean for Students), courtesy test for other than Jackson State students, college exit exams, and certification exams.
Job Duties
Schedule dates for testing per supervisor’s approval
Post dates online and maintain the web pages for testing and the sites for scheduling tests
Maintain locking file cabinet drawers to house the requested information and paper tests and keep information in the drawers updated
Prepare sign-in sheets for courtesy tests (other colleges) and special tests, such as make-ups
Provide routine direction, information, and advisement to students and prospective students in regards to testing policies, guidelines, procedures, and outcomes
Coordinates testing program policies, guidelines, and procedures
Recommend new policies and/or amendments to existing policies, guidelines, and procedures as needed
Ensures test instructions are accurate and appropriate testing environments are maintained
Ensure confidentiality of testing information, passwords, test results, and recommendations
Maintain security of testing materials
Maintain testing statistics; generate monthly and semester reports and send to supervisor
Keeps informed of advancing technology in test administration and associated software Administer and proctor the following:
Placement exams
Exit exams
Academic: Jackson State online and TN eCampus online classes, make-ups for on-ground classes, special accommodations, courtesy test for other than Jackson State online students, and certification exams
Communicate testing center information to satellite campuses
Contact instructors when there are testing issues
Record placement scores in Banner
Assist at the counter and on the computer floor, as needed
Answer and route incoming calls
Using a survey, assess students’ testing experience for feedback
Update relevant portions of Business Continuity Plan in areas of responsibility
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of two years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Associates degree
- Prior experience in a college setting
- Banner database experience or knowledge
- Excellent and effective interpersonal and organizational communication skills in both written and verbal formats
- Excellent customer service skills required
- Must exercise ethics due to confidentiality and the handling of testing information
- Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Reasoning ability required in decision making, advising and assisting students, and applying relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Time management, organizational skills, and knowledge of planning and scheduling are required
- Ability to work with a diverse population of employees and students

Pay Rate: $32,519 - $39,022 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
