Position Summary
The Tooling Engineer will analyze and investigate current tooling processes to support the overall tooling strategies. In addition, Tooling Engineer will support current production needs and look to improve current tool life and cut efficiency.
Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
- Create programs to regrind used round tools such as drills, reamers, end mills, etc. for carbide and PCD material to ensure tool quality & lowest cycle time.
- Develop “Tool Regrind Workflow” system to ensure reground quality and to foolproof no skipping and mixing drills for each plant. Train team members in Tool Regrind Workflow and new regrinding processes.
- Develop system to inspect and record tool wear for each used tool to increase tool accuracy and efficiency.
- Create Regrind Inspection Report for all regrind tools.
- Train team members to make proper adjustments to achieve reground tool quality.
- Support gear products such as making programs/inspections for new products. Install measurement programs to inspection machines for new products. Train team members how to read and understand gear measurement reports.
- Work with Regrind GL, TM to monitor and improve daily productivity.
- Responsible for ensuring that new tooling is accurately evaluated and analyzed for performance status.
- Implement kaizens to improve tooling metrics.
- Reduction of tooling cost.
- Create documentation for changes to processes and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities
Essential Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering role.
- Strong demonstratable skills and knowledge of tooling processes.
- Understand PFMEA, Statistical probability, and root cause analysis.
- Demonstrated trouble shooting/problem solving experience in an engineering role.
Education/Training/Certifications
- BS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
