The Gulf Coast Sexual Assault Program is seeking a passionate team member! We are looking for an individual motivated to provide victim advocacy for survivors of sexual assault for Judicial Circuit 14 (Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson and Washington Counties). The position is based in Panama City and serves both children and adults.
Qualifications: This position requires a High School diploma or its equivalent; although experience may be substituted for education at the discretion and approval of the Executive Director. A Bachelors Degree in human services discipline or related field is preferred. Advocates should have the ability to work independently as well as possess strong writing, communication, organization, time management, and computer skills. This position requires a minimum of three years’ experience working with sexual violence victims as an advocate or in a comparable position. Experience working in the community is necessary, preferably in a community organization or similar role. Advocates must be flexible, as some work on weekends and evenings may be necessary. A current, valid Florida Driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a reliable car are essential for this position as some travel may be required.
This position will require the selected candidate to work with males and females, children and adults, and may include incarcerated survivors of sexual violence. The selected candidate must be comfortable with and able to obtain authorization to enter a prison environment. The candidate will also accompany sexual assault survivors (children and adults) in the medical examination.
Primary Functions
- Contribute to the growth and development of the Sexual Assault Program.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of program goals.
- Ensure that the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) Standards are adhered to through all phases of program planning and implementation.
- Accountable for the development and implementation of the Rape Response Team (RRT).
- Participate in making presentations about the RRT services to medical staff, social service agencies, the criminal justice system and other community organizations.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation as part of the RRT
- Responsible for providing services to victims of sexual violence using the empowerment model.
- Provide on-call crisis intervention with adult and adolescent sexual violence victims and their love ones.
- Provide team advocacy, service management, emotional support, outreach services and online support services to teens and adults.
- Provide victims information regarding their rights and options.
- Accompany victims throughout criminal and administrative proceedings.
- Provide information and assistance, as needed, regarding Victim’s Compensation.
- Advise victims regularly of the status of their case.
- Work collaboratively with all community agencies involved in the victim’s recovery process.
- Accountable for documenting information as required per agency policy.
- Enters information into the agency’s computer system, within 48 hours of the provision of any service. Ensures all information is entered correctly and is up to date.
- Assist with administering participant satisfaction surveys that are used to evaluate the program.
- Assist with gathering necessary information and completing monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
- Participate in performing tasks necessary to achieve program goals, and complete tasks by assigned date.
- Responsible for participating in and completing all required opportunities for continuing education
- Complete the required 30 hour ACT for sexual violence victim-advocate privilege as mandated by law by FL ST 90.5035, within 30 days of starting the position; 6 hours of ongoing SV training annually.
- Complete all other trainings as required by the agency.
- Ensure all mandatory training requirements are up to date per agency policy.
- Attends all mandatory agency and staff meetings.
- All other duties that may be assigned.
