- Quality Supervision: Supervise and coordinate QA/QC activities for the fabrication, assembly, inspection, repair, refurbishment, and testing of Top Drive, Catwalk, Casing Drive Systems, and other drilling equipment.
- Inspection & Testing Oversight: Ensure receiving, in-process, final inspections, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) are performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), procedures, and applicable industry standards.
- QA/QC Team Management: Assign and monitor daily inspection activities, provide technical guidance to QA/QC Inspectors, review inspection results, and ensure timely completion of assigned quality activities.
- Welding & Fabrication Quality: Review WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, material certificates, and related welding documentation. Ensure welding, fabrication, NDT, dimensional inspection, and associated activities comply with approved requirements and applicable codes and standards.
- Non-Conformance Management: Review and coordinate Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), support root cause investigations and corrective actions, and verify implementation of approved dispositions. Escalate significant or recurring quality issues to Quality Management and Engineering as required.
- Supplier & Subcontractor Quality: Coordinate supplier inspections, surveillance, first article inspections, audits, and qualification activities. Monitor supplier quality performance and support supplier development and corrective action activities.
- Deviation & Technical Coordination: Coordinate with Engineering on material substitutions, deviations, concessions, repair dispositions, and technical clarifications. Ensure approved dispositions and technical requirements are properly implemented and documented.
- Quality Documentation: Review and verify inspection reports, Inspection Release Notes (IRN), FAT records, NDT reports, material certificates, data books, Certificates of Conformance, and other quality documentation prior to product or equipment release.
- Calibration Control: Ensure measuring, inspection, and test equipment used by the QA/QC team is suitable for the intended application, available when required, properly maintained, calibrated, and within its valid calibration period.
- QMS & API Compliance: Ensure QA/QC activities are performed in accordance with the company Quality Management System, API Q1 requirements, applicable API specifications, internal procedures, engineering requirements, and customer specifications.
- Audit Support: Support and participate in internal, customer, supplier, and API audits. Coordinate preparation and verification of relevant quality records, address assigned audit findings, and monitor corrective actions through closure.
- Aftermarket & Operations Support: Provide QA/QC support for equipment repair, overhaul, servicing, field activities, aftermarket operations, warranty issues, and other quality-related matters involving drilling equipment and associated components.
- Quality Reporting & Performance: Monitor inspection status, NCRs, supplier quality performance, corrective actions, quality issues, and assigned quality KPIs. Provide regular reports and updates to Quality Management.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve inspection practices, documentation, supplier performance, product quality, and QA/QC processes. Support lessons learned, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Authority & Escalation: Exercise appropriate authority within the assigned QA/QC scope to accept or reject work based on approved requirements, stop nonconforming work when necessary, initiate NCRs, and escalate unresolved or critical quality issues to the appropriate authority.
- Company Policies & Quality Objectives: Perform assigned duties in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures, Quality Management System requirements, and established quality objectives.
- Decision-Making & Collaboration: Exercise the necessary authority to make decisions within the defined scope of work, escalate issues as required, and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Aftermarket, Sales, vendors, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Accountability: Be accountable for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of assigned work and for reporting any nonconformities, risks, or concerns that may impact quality, legal or regulatory compliance, safety, environmental performance, or customer satisfaction.
- QHSE Objectives: Support and participate in achieving the organization’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant certification in Welding Inspection, NDT, Quality Management, or API-related disciplines is preferred.
- Knowledge of API Q1, applicable API product specifications, AWS/ASME requirements, and ISO 9001 principles is preferred.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, inspection, testing, and repair of drilling equipment.
- Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, WPS/PQR, material certificates, NDT reports, ITPs, and quality documentation.
- Good understanding of NCR, root cause analysis, corrective actions, supplier quality, and deviation control processes.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to guide QA/QC Inspectors and coordinate quality activities.
- Good communication and coordination skills for working with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, vendors, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Proficient in technical reporting, documentation, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to make sound quality decisions, prioritize activities, and escalate critical quality issues when required.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL
- Minimum 7–10 years of relevant QA/QC experience in manufacturing, fabrication, repair, or servicing of oilfield, drilling, or heavy mechanical equipment.
- Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory or team-lead experience in a QA/QC environment is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with welding inspection, dimensional inspection, material verification, NDT coordination, FAT, supplier inspection, and quality documentation.
- Experience working in an OEM, oilfield equipment manufacturer, drilling equipment, or similar heavy-engineering environment is highly preferred.
- Experience supporting API Q1 audits, supplier audits, customer inspections, NCR investigations, and corrective action activities is preferred.
