Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support the day-to-day finance and accounting functions. This role helps maintain accurate financial records, process transactions and provide timely administrative support to the accounting team.
The successful candidate will be organised, dependable and comfortable working with numbers, accounting records and deadlines. Previous experience in an accounting or administrative role is beneficial, along with strong communication skills and proficiency in spreadsheet and accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Enter invoices, expenses, payments and other financial data into accounting systems.
- Assist with invoice preparation, payment processing and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Reconcile bank, credit card and supplier accounts, investigating and reporting discrepancies.
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation, both digital and paper-based.
- Respond to routine enquiries from suppliers, customers and colleagues regarding invoices and payments.
- Check financial documents for accuracy, completeness and appropriate authorisation.
- Support the preparation of accounting summaries, schedules and other reports as required.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in an accounting, bookkeeping or finance administration role, or relevant training.
- Basic understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and account reconciliation processes.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and office software, including Microsoft Excel or equivalent.
- Strong numerical skills and close attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with accounting software or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Experience processing a high volume of invoices or financial transactions.
- Certificate, diploma or coursework in accounting, bookkeeping or finance.
- Experience in distribution, wholesale, logistics or a related business environment.

Pay
$17 an hour with an opportunity to increase in a 90 days.
