Job description

Location: Boston, MA – Hybrid Work ScheduleExperience Level: 2-4+ years of labor and employment and/or litigation experience

Description: Harris Beach Murtha seeks a mid-level associate to join its Labor & Employment Practice Group. The Associate will work on a broad range of employment matters, including discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, breach of contract, and other statutory and common law claims arising under state and federal law. This position will also involve counseling employer clients and providing day-to-day guidance on a variety of workplace and employment-related issues. Candidates with other relevant litigation experience and strong writing samples* are also encouraged to apply, as the group is willing to provide training.*A writing sample is required for consideration and should be submitted with your application.

The Labor & Employment Associate will have the opportunity to:

Conduct legal research on a wide variety of employment law matters

Advise employer clients on day-to-day workplace and employment-related issues

Draft and revise employee handbooks, workplace policies, and related documents

Prepare position statements and responses to administrative charges filed with the EEOC, Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and other regional agencies

Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other submissions in state and federal court

Prepare and respond to discovery requests

Draft deposition outlines, prepare exhibits, and assist with witness preparation

Conduct and defend depositions, as appropriate based on experience

Assist partners with mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, fact-finding conferences, and trials

Second chair and, where appropriate, first chair mediations, arbitrations, hearings, oral arguments, and trials

Communicate directly with clients regarding legal strategy, advice, and case developments

Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas to deliver exceptional client service

Work Environment and Expectations:

A hybrid work opportunity in Harris Beach Murtha’s Boston office

Minimum annual billable requirement of 1800 hours

Applications are encouraged and desired if you have:

2-4+ years of labor and employment and/or litigation experience

Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school

Admission to the Massachusetts Bar required

Admission in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and/or New Hampshire, or eligibility for admission into one or more of those jurisdictions, is a plus

Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and objective decision-making

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client-service skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

A high level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail

A positive, flexible, and cooperative attitude

Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities across all levels of the organization

Military experience welcome

Salary information below will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position and geographic location.

$130,000 – 185,000
