Job description

The Head of US Patient Safety is accountable for the overall strategic direction, operational execution, and holistic performance of the PV system for the USA, ensuring full alignment with International Patient Safety (IPS) priorities and business needs. Operating in close partnership with Genentech, the Head of US Patient Safety serves as the primary steward of the affiliate PV system and safety risk management.

The Opportunity:

In this role, core responsibilities will include:

  • Strategy: Lead the Affiliate Patient Safety strategy, collaborating with cross-functional leaders to prioritize initiatives that maximize patient and business impact. Additionally, serve on the IPS Leadership Team to co-own the strategic vision, governance, and collective performance of the broader IPS organization.
  • PV System: Maintain holistic oversight of the local PV system to ensure strict compliance, operational efficiency, and inspection readiness, thereby safeguarding the company’s license to operate.
  • Safety Risk Management: Ensure product safety launch readiness, aligning global safety solutions with therapeutic strategies and driving local risk minimization efforts that improve patient outcomes.
  • Safety Communication: Lead strategies to communicate and educate on safety risks in context, ensuring transparent and timely safety communications to healthcare professionals, patients, and external stakeholders, in partnership with US Medical and other functions.
  • Safety Insights: Drive the systematic collection, analysis, and sharing of safety insights aligned with disease area goals, leveraging digital solutions and real-world evidence as appropriate.
  • People Leadership & Talent Pipeline: Provide solid-line leadership to the US Patient Safety Leadership Team, with overarching talent oversight, succession planning, and capability building across all US safety staff.

Who you are

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent) or higher degree in life science discipline (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MSc)
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in PV, clinical research/development, including 7+ years in senior Patient Safety leadership roles across complex regional or global environments.
  • Minimum of 7 years of executive people leadership coaching, developing, and engaging large multi-layered teams and networks of leaders.
  • Proven track record of operating with an enterprise-first mindset, demonstrating behaviors that consistently drive impact, influence strategy, and build capabilities beyond assigned regional borders.
  • Executive presence and recognized authority influencing senior leadership across local and global organizations.
  • Extensive experience engaging with major Tier-1 global Health Authorities and shaping international PV ecosystems

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $282,000 - $523,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
