Job description

Experienced Litigation Attorney

Trucking, Catastrophic Injury & Appellate

The Law Firm for Truck Safety

Primary Location: Phoenix, Arizona

(Bar admission required in Arizona; candidates who can also support Nevada, Texas, and California preferred)

Full-Time, Exempt | Remote or Hybrid

$130K – $170K base salary, based on experience

We are looking for one experienced litigator who is just as comfortable arguing to a judge, or jury as to an appellate panel.

The Firm

The Law Firm for Truck Safety is a nationally recognized firm dedicated exclusively to representing victims of catastrophic truck crashes. We have more Board-Certified Trucking Accident Law attorneys than any firm in the country, and many of us hold commercial driver's licenses and work directly on the safety reforms shaping this industry.

Our mission goes beyond the courtroom. We work alongside clients, lawmakers, and industry leaders to advance trucking safety reforms and help families rebuild after devastating crashes.

What You Would Earn

This role pays between $130,000 and $170,000 base salary, based on experience, with performance-based bonus opportunities tied to firm and case outcomes.

The WorkYou will independently manage a full caseload of complex trucking, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death cases, from intake through trial. That means building case strategy around liability, damages, and discovery; serving as lead or second-chair trial counsel depending on the matter; and taking and defending depositions of corporate representatives, adverse parties, expert witnesses, and treating providers. You will work closely with accident reconstructionists, trucking-safety experts, life-care planners, economists, and physicians.

You will apply federal and state trucking regulations, including FMCSA rules, to build liability theories, and you will draft and argue dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, and motions in limine. You will lead settlement negotiations with insurers and defense counsel while keeping a trial-first mindset, and you will stay in close, direct contact with the clients and families you represent.

This role also carries real appellate responsibility. You will identify and preserve appellate issues as cases develop, build the trial record with an eye toward reversal or affirmance, and analyze trial court rulings for legal or procedural error. You will draft persuasive appellate briefs and petitions, argue before appellate courts, and work closely with trial counsel to carry a case smoothly from trial through post-trial and appeal.

High-stakes litigation does not keep standard hours; the role is full-time (exempt) and calls for flexibility around court deadlines, client needs, and trial.

The Team

This is an opportunity to help build our presence in a growing region. You will work collaboratively with our trial attorneys, supporting them as second chair and taking on increasing first-chair responsibility as you grow, while mentoring associate attorneys and legal staff along the way.

The role can be performed remotely or on a hybrid basis from our Phoenix office, with practice extending into Nevada, Texas, and California as cases require. As the firm expands its footprint in these markets, there is a real opportunity to help shape that growth.

About You

We are looking for a lawyer who is equally comfortable running a case to trial and making the case for reversal, or affirmance, on appeal.

At minimum, this means:

  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license to practice in Arizona (or ability to obtain admission promptly)
  • 5–10+ years of civil litigation experience, with significant plaintiff-side personal injury and/or wrongful death work
  • Demonstrated trial experience
  • A proven ability to manage cases independently from intake through resolution or trial
  • Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills, including the ability to spot appellate issues and argue them persuasively
  • Experience with complex discovery, depositions, motion practice, and case strategy development
  • Willingness to travel as cases require, including travel around the country
  • Trucking litigation experience, on either the plaintiff or defense side, is a real plus, as is familiarity with FMCSA regulations, experience building or expanding a legal practice, established industry involvement such as speaking or publications, and admission in Nevada, Texas, or California.
  • Growing Into The Role
Within three to five years of joining, you will be expected to earn NBTA Board Certification in Truck Accident Law and obtain a commercial driver's license. The certification marks you as among the most qualified truck crash lawyers in the country, and the CDL means you understand large trucks and truck driver training from the inside.

How We Will Support YouIn addition to your earnings, we offer comprehensive health coverage, including medical, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits, along with paid time off, holidays, and sick leave. You will work in a remote-friendly, collaborative, mission-driven culture with real professional development and leadership opportunities, plus the chance to help us grow into new markets and shape the firm's presence across Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and California.

If you are eager to do serious trial and appellate work, take on meaningful responsibility, and represent families in cases that can both change lives and improve roadway safety, we want to hear from you.
