Manager YD Learning Development
Job description
Overview
Join Our Team as Manager YD Learning Development
Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the nation's premier youth development organization. Our programs, training and services impact nearly 4 million children and teens every year. We are always looking for qualified professionals with a passion for improving young lives, as a member of our national staff. We have strong values, and offer great benefits to allow our employees to maintain work/life balance.
LOCATION: This position is on-site, office-based in Atlanta, GA (hybrid model - 3 days remote / 2 days in office- Tuesday & Wednesday)
Role Summary
This role leads strategies that strengthen staff development, organizational capacity, and continuous learning across the Boys & Girls Club Movement. The position will lead the National Trainers Initiative (NTI), a decentralized trainer certification program, and connect it to a broader quality improvement approach that helps Clubs build the conditions, routines, and leadership practices needed for a culture of learning. Working as a consultant and systems thinker, the role will help organizations assess needs, identify root causes, align people and processes, and build sustainable systems that enable staff to learn, apply high-quality youth development practices, and improve over time.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Lead the National Trainers Initiative (NTI): Lead the redesign, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of NTI, ensuring alignment with BGCA’s broader staff development and culture of learning strategies.
- Build and Support Trainer Capacity: Develop and implement strategies to recruit, engage, develop, support, and retain a high-quality network of trainers and staff development professionals across the Movement.
- Build Organizational Capacity for a Culture of Learning: Consult with Club leaders and cross-functional teams to assess organizational conditions, identify strengths and barriers, and build the leadership practices, routines, roles, and supports needed for continuous staff learning and consistent implementation of high-quality youth development practices.
- Apply Systems Thinking to Improvement: Examine how strategy, leadership, talent, learning, data, tools, and operating practices interact; facilitate root-cause analysis and process mapping; and co-design practical solutions that address underlying conditions rather than isolated symptoms.
- Design Learning Experiences & Improvement Supports: Design, facilitate, test, and curate learning experiences, coaching tools, diagnostic resources, and job-embedded supports that strengthen trainer effectiveness and help organizations translate learning into changes in everyday practice.
- Measure Impact & Lead Continuous Improvement: Develop practical measures of trainer effectiveness, organizational capacity, learning transfer, and implementation. Help teams use quantitative and qualitative data, feedback, and reflection to test assumptions, monitor progress, adapt supports, and sustain improvement over time.
- Provide Thought Leadership: Contribute expertise and thought leadership in adult learning, professional development, and staff capacity building to strengthen BGCA’s approach to professional learning across the Movement.
Additional Responsibilities
- Partner across Youth Development and other BGCA teams to align learning, quality improvement, consulting, and service-delivery strategies and reduce duplication for Clubs.
- Conduct site visits and virtual consultations; synthesize observations, data, and stakeholder input into clear findings, prioritized recommendations, and practical improvement plans.
- Capture and share lessons, promising practices, and recurring system barriers so insights from individual engagements strengthen Movement-wide tools, services, and strategy.
Core Competencies
- Strategic & Systems Thinking – Sees connections among organizational conditions, people, processes, incentives, data, and outcomes; anticipates downstream effects; and aligns capacity-building initiatives with broader strategy and long-term impact.
- Relationship Building & Influence – Builds trust and productive partnerships across functions and levels of an organization, particularly within a decentralized environment.
- Organizational Agility – Adapts approaches to changing organizational needs, priorities, audiences, and operating environments.
- Communication & Presentation – Communicates complex ideas clearly and effectively through written, verbal, and group presentations.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Creates alignment among diverse stakeholders, gains buy-in, and maintains engagement throughout initiatives.
- Consultative Problem Solving – Uses inquiry, listening, data, and structured diagnosis to distinguish symptoms from root causes; helps stakeholders make sense of complexity; and co-creates practical, sustainable solutions rather than prescribing one-size-fits-all answers.
- Results Orientation – Translates strategy into action, follows through on commitments, and uses outcomes and feedback to improve effectiveness.
Sucess Measures
Success in this role means Clubs and BGCA partners have stronger, more sustainable systems for staff learning and quality improvement—not simply more training activity. The individual will successfully lead and continuously improve NTI; build the consulting and facilitation capacity of trainers and partners; help organizations identify and address root causes; and develop practical learning, coaching, measurement, and knowledge-sharing supports. Progress will be demonstrated through stronger organizational learning routines, increased application of effective youth development practices, useful evidence of what is working, and the ability of Club teams to continue improving with less reliance on external support.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in staff development, learning and development, talent development, training, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience serving as an internal or external consultant to leaders and cross-functional teams, including scoping engagements, diagnosing organizational needs, facilitating sense-making, developing recommendations, and supporting implementation and change.
- Experience in youth development, education, workforce development, or other mission-driven organizations, with a focus on adult learning, staff development, and organizational impact.
- Demonstrated ability to apply systems thinking, improvement methods, adult learning, and data analysis to strengthen organizational practices and capacity. Experience showing how learning and consulting efforts led to sustained changes in routines, leadership practice, staff capability, or implementation is strongly preferred.
Environmental & Working Conditions
- Normal internal working environment.
- Travel estimated at 20% (can be up to 2-4 days or more in a month, including weekends, depending upon scheduling requirements).
- Individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $80,000.00 to $94,000.00. BGCA takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training and experience, as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level. We are highly invested in every employee’s total well-being and offer a substantial and comprehensive total rewards package.
