Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing St. Vincent de Paul’s external communications and marketing efforts to increase awareness of the organization’s mission, strengthen engagement with donors, volunteers, and community partners, and support fundraising and programmatic goals.
This position will manage the organization’s communications across multiple channels, including social media, email, newsletters, donor appeals, the annual report, website content, marketing materials, and other external facing communications. The Marketing & Communications Manager will work closely with Development, Programs, Volunteer Services, and organizational leadership to identify compelling stories, communicate impact, and ensure consistent and effective messaging across the organization.
The ideal candidate is both a strong writer and visual communicator who can take a project from concept through execution. This person should be comfortable developing strategy while also doing the hands-on work of writing, designing, scheduling, and producing communications.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- * Develop and execute an annual communications and marketing strategy aligned with organizational, fundraising, program, and volunteer engagement priorities.
- * Manage the organization’s communications calendar to coordinate donor communications, program messaging, social media, newsletters, campaigns, events, and other outreach.
- * Serve as a steward of St. Vincent de Paul’s brand, ensuring consistent messaging, voice, visual identity, and quality across communications.
- * Develop compelling stories that demonstrate the impact of St. Vincent de Paul’s programs and center the dignity and experiences of the people and communities served.
- * Create marketing and outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, presentations, event collateral, signage, digital graphics, and other materials as needed.
- * Manage relationships with external vendors, printers, photographers, designers, or other communications partners when appropriate.
- * Support media relations, press releases, community announcements, and other public-facing communications as needed.
Digital & Social Media
- * Develop and manage the organization’s social media strategy and content calendar.
- * Create, design, write, schedule, and publish engaging social media content across organizational platforms.
- * Gather photos, stories, testimonials, program updates, and other content from staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
- * Monitor engagement and performance and use data to continually improve content and audience growth.
- * Maintain and update website content to ensure information is accurate, current, compelling, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Fundraising & Donor Communications
- * Partner closely with the Development team to develop compelling donor communications that strengthen donor engagement and support fundraising goals.
- * Write, design, and execute donor newsletters and other stewardship communications.
- * Develop donor appeals and fundraising campaign communications, including year-end giving, Giving Tuesday, special campaigns, and other fundraising initiatives.
- * Lead the development and production of the organization’s annual report, working across departments to gather impact data, stories, photography, and other content.
- * Develop campaign messaging, case statements, impact stories, donor stewardship materials, event communications, and other fundraising collateral.
- * Ensure fundraising communications include clear and compelling calls to action while remaining consistent with St. Vincent de Paul’s mission and voice.
- * Collaborate with Development to segment and tailor communications for donors, volunteers, community partners, and other audiences when appropriate.
Storytelling & Content Development
- * Establish an ongoing process for identifying and collecting stories from programs, volunteers, donors, staff, and community members.
- * Interview staff, volunteers, donors, and program participants as appropriate to develop authentic stories demonstrating organizational impact.
- * Maintain a library of approved stories, testimonials, photographs, impact statistics, and other content that can be used across fundraising and communications.
- * Work with program staff to ensure stories are shared respectfully, accurately, and with appropriate permissions and consideration for participant dignity.
Internal Communications
- * Support internal communications to help staff promote organizational news, initiatives, events, campaigns, and priorities.
- * Partner with leadership and departments to develop internal announcements, updates, talking points, and other communications as needed.
- * Help strengthen information sharing across departments so that Communications has timely access to program updates, impact data, stories, and organizational developments.
Measurement & Reporting
- * Establish and track key communications metrics, including email engagement, social media reach and engagement, audience growth, website traffic, campaign performance, and other relevant indicators.
- * Regularly evaluate communications performance and make recommendations for improvement.
- * Provide leadership and Development with periodic reports on communications activity, performance, and audience engagement.
Qualifications
- * Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- * 5+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit development communications.
- * Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
- * Demonstrated experience writing donor focused and fundraising communications, including appeals, newsletters, stewardship materials, and campaign messaging.
- * Strong graphic design skills and demonstrated experience creating professional digital and print materials.
- * Experience with design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools.
- * Experience managing organizational social media accounts and developing content from concept through publication.
- * Experience with email marketing platforms and creating email newsletters and campaigns.
- * Experience managing websites or content management systems preferred.
- * Understanding of nonprofit fundraising and donor engagement strongly preferred.
- * Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- * Ability to translate complex program information and impact data into accessible, compelling communications.
- * Sound judgment when communicating about sensitive topics and working with stories involving individuals receiving services.
- * Photography, videography, and/or basic video editing experience is a plus.
- * Experience using analytics to evaluate and improve communications performance is preferred.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will help St. Vincent de Paul build a more consistent, proactive, and integrated communications program. Success will include stronger storytelling across programs, increased visibility and engagement, timely and compelling donor communications, consistent social media activity, improved coordination between Development, Programs, and Communications, and a recognizable organizational voice and visual identity across all channels.
