The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Release Manager to own the end-to-end deployment lifecycle for our platform. This role requires hands-on technical experience combined with the ability to bridge the gap between process management and cloud architecture, orchestrating complex, zero-downtime releases within a cloud-native AWS ecosystem. You will not just schedule releases; you will deeply understand the deployment pipelines and infrastructure making them happen.
Responsibilities
- Technical Release Ownership: Plan, coordinate, and execute all software and infrastructure releases for the platform across staging and production environments.
- Zero-Downtime Execution: Enforce advanced deployment patterns, including blue/green, canary, and rolling deployments, ensuring uninterrupted service for end users.
- Technical Risk & Quality Gating: Lead Deployment Readiness Reviews (DRR), evaluate Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation) changes, and enforce strict release readiness criteria.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner intimately with DevOps, SRE, QA, and engineering squads to eliminate pipeline bottlenecks and continuously optimize release velocity.
Candidates based in the Tysons vicinity will be prioritized as this role is Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years in technical release management, DevOps, or SRE roles, with at least 1 year explicitly working on enterprise-scale deployments on AWS.
- AWS Pipeline Management: Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, CodePipeline) and modern CI/CD toolchains (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
- Versioning: Deep understanding of continuous integration/delivery concepts, advanced Git branching strategies, and pipeline automation.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Working knowledge of Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to effectively review and coordinate infrastructure changes tied to application releases.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex deployment risks and technical bottlenecks to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with observability tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus) to evaluate post-release health metrics.
- Experience releasing software within a strict regulatory compliance framework (SOC2, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS).
