Shift Manager – Cash Operations
Job description
The Shift Manager – Cash Operations is responsible for overseeing all cashier cage activities during an assigned shift. This position ensures the integrity, security, and accuracy of cash handling operations, while promoting exceptional guest service and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Shift Manager plays a key leadership role, supervising team members and supporting strategic initiatives related to promotions, player tracking, and overall department performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the daily operation of the casino cage and ensures integrity and security of all cash and chips.
- Ensures compliance with internal control procedures and all applicable local, state, and Tribal gaming regulations.
- Enforces compliance with Title 31 of the Bank Secrecy Act regarding currency reporting and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements.
- Restricts cage access to authorized personnel and maintains appropriate documentation.
- Accepts and secures currency counts from the slot count team for deposit.
- Maintains custody and control of gaming chips, coins, currency, patrons’ checks, and relevant forms and records.
- Ensures data accuracy and integrity in player tracking systems as entered.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with regular players while engaging new guests to promote return visits.
- Supports marketing and promotional efforts by monitoring activity on the gaming floor and tracking success of offers via the player tracking system.
- Ensures shift staffing levels meet operational demands and adjusts schedules as needed.
- Leads by example and upholds the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and guest service.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides effective leadership to cage personnel during assigned shifts.
- Recruits, trains, and develops team members while fostering a safe, secure, and legally compliant work environment.
- Communicates performance expectations, evaluates results, and delivers regular feedback and coaching.
- Enforces grooming standards, policies, and operational procedures to ensure team efficiency and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work with large sums of cash while maintaining strict confidentiality and attention to security.
- In-depth knowledge of casino cash operations, player tracking systems, and promotional procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and capable of using spreadsheets, databases, and reporting tools.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and Tribal gaming regulations, as well as financial control procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cooperatively with internal departments and guests.
- High ethical standards and business integrity; able to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CFE, CPA) are a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cash operations or financial services, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or shift management role.
- Proven experience overseeing high-volume cash handling procedures in a regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, and compliance regulations.
- Skilled in managing staff scheduling, shift coverage, and operational continuity.
- Experience with enterprise financial systems, cash automation tools, and reconciliation processes.
- Prior experience in the casino, banking, or secure cash-handling industries is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

- Must be able to communicate clearly and confidently in person, over the phone, and via written reports; frequent interaction with supervisors, cash operations staff, internal departments, and regulatory personnel is essential.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally lifts and carries cash boxes, coin bags, documents, or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds; may assist with physical cash handling during shift transitions or audits.
- Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands to operate computers, count currency, review reports, and handle cash handling tools and security systems.
- Mobility: Frequently moves throughout the cash operations department, including the cage, vault, count room, and casino floor; must respond quickly to operational issues or escalated transactions.
- Stationary Work: Frequently remains standing during shift observation, transaction supervision, and guest or employee interactions; may also remain seated for extended periods while reviewing shift reports and surveillance footage.
- Tool Operation: Regular use of cash handling equipment, surveillance systems, security tools, and office technology including computers, printers, and point-of-sale systems.
- Visual Acuity: Requires close vision and attention to detail to review transaction reports, verify cash amounts, detect discrepancies, and monitor system alerts or surveillance feeds.
- Working Conditions: Routinely operates in secure and high-surveillance areas, including the cage, main bank, and vault; frequent exposure to a noisy, fast-paced casino environment with a smoking atmosphere.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.
WORKING HOURS:
Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
