US Direct Tax Manager
Job description
Lineage is seeking an experienced Income Tax Manager[CW1.1] to join our dynamic team headquartered in Novi, Michigan. This role drives day-to-day U.S. tax compliance across a complex structure of REITs, partnerships, and corporate entities. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax regulations, compliance and reporting, with experience in REITs and/or real estate a significant plus. In addition to managing the compliance process with our outside service provider, this position will own quarterly and annual REIT testing and co-lead the tax fixed asset function. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary team, including external tax advisors, to deliver accurate and timely filings and continuously improve compliance processes. This role operates on a hybrid schedule, with the expectation of working from the Novi office several days per week. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage day-to-day U.S. federal, state and local tax compliance across REITs, partnerships, and corporate entities, including owning the compliance calendar and workpaper standardization, preparation and review of income tax calculations, workpapers, returns, K-1s and related filings.
- Support quarterly estimates and extensions.
- Manage the relationship with our outside compliance provider, including scoping, data requests, review of deliverables, budget and deadline management, and driving process improvements year over year.
- Own quarterly and annual REIT compliance testing, including asset and income tests, distribution requirements and supporting documentation, and escalate potential issues timely.
- Research and analyze complex tax issues, propose practical solutions and document technical positions.
- Co-own the tax fixed asset function, including maintenance of tax depreciation records, cost segregation inputs, additions and disposals, and reconciliation to book fixed assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including accounting, finance, treasury and legal, to gather data and ensure alignment on tax-related matters.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the organization and recommending necessary adjustments.
- Assist with audits and notices from federal and state tax authorities, preparing responses and supporting documentation as needed.
- Mentor and develop staff, providing training and guidance to foster professional growth within the tax department.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred, not required.
- 5-9 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting and/or industry; Big 4 experience a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with U.S. federal and state tax laws and compliance requirements.
- Experience with REITs and/or real estate, including REIT testing, is a significant plus.
- Experience with partnership taxation, including allocations and K-1 reporting, preferred.
- Working knowledge of transfer pricing principles and intercompany transactions, particularly between taxable domestic U.S. entities (including TRS-to-REIT and intercompany service, lease and financing arrangements), with the ability to support documentation and arm's-length pricing analyses.
- Experience with tax fixed assets and depreciation software preferred.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax issues across multiple entity types and jurisdictions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and interact with external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all work deliverables.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and filing deadlines effectively.
