Purpose of the Role

The Room Manager at N Family School leads the overall quality, compliance, and daily operation of an assigned classroom in line with N Family’s Wildly Important Goals (WIGs). Leading the classroom team, this role holds accountability for children’s care and learning outcomes, team performance and development, and strong family partnerships.

As the primary leader within the classroom, the Room Manager creates a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where children thrive, Educators grow, and families feel valued and connected. This role ensures consistent delivery of the N Curriculum while maintaining compliance with all licensing, health, safety, and safeguarding requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Classroom Leadership & Educational Excellence
  • Lead the implementation of N Family’s learning through play approach and the N Curriculum within the classroom
  • Lead the planning and delivery of developmentally appropriate learning experiences tailored to each child’s needs
  • Ensure high-quality observations, assessments, and learning plans are completed and acted upon
  • Keep learning environments organized, stimulating, and reflective of children’s interests and developmental stages
  • Monitor child development and partner with families and school leadership on milestones and support needs
Room Operations & Compliance
  • Oversee the daily operation of the classroom, including routines, transitions, mealtimes, and rest periods
  • Manage educator-child ratios and classroom team scheduling in accordance with licensing requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local childcare licensing regulations
  • Conduct ongoing classroom quality reviews and self-assessments, and implement corrective actions when needed
  • Complete and oversee required documentation, records, and reports accurately and on time
  • Ensure classroom materials, equipment, and learning resources are maintained and available
Team Leadership & Development
  • Direct and oversee the day-to-day practice and performance of Educators assigned to the classroom
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Educators through regular observation, feedback, and reflective practice
  • Lead onboarding and training of new team members within the classroom
  • Partner with school leadership on performance discussions, development planning, and succession planning
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture that supports morale, engagement, and retention
Care, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Champion safeguarding, child protection, and child welfare responsibilities at all times
  • Promote positive behavior guidance, social-emotional development, and a calm, nurturing classroom culture
  • Conduct routine health and safety checks and address any concerns immediately
  • Ensure health, safety, and safeguarding policies and procedures are embedded in daily routines
  • Maintain compliance with mandated reporting requirements and state licensing requirements
Family & Team Collaboration
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with families and caregivers
  • Communicate regularly with families about children’s development, learning, and classroom activities
  • Address family concerns professionally, promptly, and collaboratively
  • Encourage family engagement and participation in the school community
  • Support school-wide initiatives, events, and operational priorities as required
Professional Practice
  • Work a flexible schedule during school operating hours, typically between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with availability for meetings or events as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement and support new curriculum enhancements, teaching practices, and school initiatives
  • Stay current on best practices in early childhood education and child development
  • Act as a role model for professionalism, accountability, and lifelong learning
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school and wider organization
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an early childhood education or licensed childcare setting
  • Experience leading, supervising, mentoring, or coaching Educators within a classroom environment
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining classroom quality standards and regulatory compliance
  • Strong understanding of child development, early learning frameworks, and high-quality practice
  • Experience building positive relationships with families and managing family communications
  • For infant room assignments, prior experience working with children under age two is required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field
  • Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements for a classroom leadership role in a licensed early childhood program
  • Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification required, or willingness to obtain upon hire and maintain per state timelines
  • Completion of mandated reporter and safeguarding training, maintained per state requirements
  • Successful completion of all required background checks and clearances
  • Must meet all state health screening and immunization requirements, including tuberculosis screening, as required by licensing authorities

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Room Manager directly supervises the Educators assigned to the classroom, providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, performance feedback, training, and scheduling coordination. This role partners with school leadership on performance management, team development, staffing needs, and classroom improvement, ensuring continuity of care, regulatory compliance, and consistent delivery of the N Curriculum.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and active engagement with children throughout the day. The Room Manager works across classrooms, indoor learning environments, and outdoor play spaces and may experience moderate noise levels, outdoor weather conditions, and exposure to childhood illnesses.
