About Montgomery Place: The premiere senior living community overlooking Lake Michigan and the Museum of Science and Industry, Montgomery Place serves as the cultural center of East Hyde Park. Offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, as well as a 40-bed Skilled Nursing Unit providing Long-term Care and Short-term, sub-acute rehab services.
About the Position: The Activity Director is responsible to plan, organize, and implement a program of therapeutic activities in the skilled nursing areas (Alzheimer’s special care and Medicare rehab) designed to meet the social, spiritual, intellectual emotional, educational and physical needs and interests of residents in accordance with the comprehensive resident care plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Overall responsibilities
- Develop therapeutic services to promote the residents’ opportunities for engaging in normal life enhancement pursuits and to increase and or maintain functioning levels
- Talk with residents’ family members about residents’ likes and dislikes to provide person centered care activities
- Complete the “Activity Pursuit Patterns” section of the Minimal Data Set, the Montgomery Place Activity History and Interest Profile, and an Activity Assessment for each resident in accordance with Montgomery Place procedures; attend and participate in Resident Care Plan Meeting; Review resident progress regularly according to center policy
- Assure physician’s approval for involvement in recreational services; Maintain precautions/limitations list on each resident
- Provide activities designed for residents with dementia diagnosis when applicable
- Encourage resident participation within group and individual activities including recreational activities, arts/crafts, community outings, religious activities, intellectual/educational activities, community/center service activities, etc.
- Assist residents in the organization and implementation of Resident Council Meetings
- Plan community activities that jointly include the community, staff, families and residents
- Complete a monthly calendar of available recreational services
- Assist in the development of the Center Newsletter
- Develop and maintain an effective Volunteer Program
- Chart individual resident’s attendance and participation in both group and individual recreational pursuits
- Support each resident’s right to self-determination; Document resident refusal of activity services offered; Outline consequences of the refusal for the resident, and informs resident of any therapeutic alternative to the refused service
- Supervise Activity Aides
- Conduct employee performance reviews
- Approve employees timecard for payroll processing
- Coordinate work of department with work of other departments
General Responsibilities

- Participate in and maintain current status on all training and education required by the company
