Position Summary:
The Business Banking Specialist plays a critical role in supporting RiverBank’s relationship-driven approach to serving small and midsize businesses. This individual is responsible for business development, client engagement, and consultative sales efforts focused on deposit growth and merchant services. The role blends internal collaboration with external relationship-building to deliver customized banking solutions that align with client needs and drive profitability.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development & Relationship Management
- Develop and grow a portfolio of business clients through proactive outreach, referral development, and networking.
- Identify current and emerging client needs and match them with RiverBank’s business banking solutions, with a focus on deposits and merchant services.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and meet individual production goals for new deposits and merchant sales.
- Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with commercial lenders to encourage reciprocal referrals and integrated client support.
- Actively engage in local business associations and networking groups to enhance visibility, foster relationships, and grow a professional network.
- Maintain a proactive, sales-oriented mindset with regular outbound outreach, including meetings and attendance at relevant professional events.
Customer Engagement & Retention
- Lead and manage all aspects of the onboarding process for new business clients, ensuring smooth setup of deposit accounts and banking services.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from clients and internal teams, consistently assessing and prioritizing tasks to maximize efficiency and service quality.
- Deliver responsive, high-quality customer service with a strong awareness of opportunities to transition service interactions into sales engagements.
- Conduct regular customer reviews to uncover opportunities for process improvements, cross-sell opportunities, and overall relationship expansion.
- Serve as the point of contact for business banking clients, collaborating with internal teams to resolve service issues and deliver high-touch support.
Product Support & Innovation
- Partner with internal product teams to help implement, test, and enhance business banking solutions.
- Lead customer demos and onboarding for deposit products, treasury management, and merchant services.
Research & Problem Solving
- Interface directly with customers and internal staff to investigate pain points and recommend solutions tailored to business banking clients.
- Assist in documentation, analysis, and delivery of feedback for continuous improvement of products and service workflows.
Market & Industry Insight
- Stay informed on economic trends, competitive offerings, and evolving small business banking needs.
- Identify target industries and ideal client profiles that align with our merchant services offerings to drive strategic growth.
- Share relevant insights with the Commercial Banking team to ensure RiverBank stays ahead of the curve in delivering value.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in business or commercial banking, preferably with a focus on small to midsize businesses
- Proven track record in deposit generation and selling banking services (e.g., merchant services, cash management)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-first mindset
- Knowledge of small business banking products and local market dynamics
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred
