Job description

The Community School Director (CSD) is a key member of the school’s executive team. He or she is the principal’s go-to person for creating a synergistic relationship between the school, the community, and Replications, Inc. He or she will work under the guidance of Replications to improve student attendance and parent engagement, coordinate mental health, and academic support services, and manage school partnerships and enrichment activities.

The Community School Director will assist the school in developing implementation action plans, troubleshooting implementation obstacles, tracking the school’s progress against performance goals as outlined in the Comprehensive Education Plan, collecting student-specific and school-wide data, and supporting program activities. Additional responsibilities may include managing community partnerships and forums, facilitating and/or participating in the School Leadership Team (SLT) meetings. The Community School Director will ensure that the implementation of the school’s community plan is implemented at exceptional levels of quality and buy-in through regular communication with stakeholders across the school community and within Replications’ management team.

Responsibilities:

Manage and Supervise staff

• Recruit, hire, train and lead an on-site Replications school support team
• Schedule and hold weekly staff meetings and individual supervision sessions
• Set annual performance goals for each on-site staff member and conduct annual performance reviews
• Identify needs and secure professional development opportunities for on-site staff

School Support and Partnership

• Build and maintain relationships with administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community partners in the school community.
• Act as a liaison between Replications and school leadership.
• Establish and facilitate working groups to address specific community school strategy components, such as communication, recruitment and branding, after-school programming, data collection and composite development.
• Regularly plan and conduct a needs assessment process, including reviewing school and student-level data; conducting focus groups with parents, students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners; and reviewing and/or conducting school climate and culture surveys to be used in the development of the CEP and Community School plans.
• Implement evidence and research-based best practices that address priority and need areas identified by the school as part of its strategy.
• Develop and implement ongoing mechanisms to illicit input from teachers, school staff, SLT/Community School Team (CST) members, parents, and students to determine ongoing needs of students and families.
• Identify, coordinate, plan, and facilitate on-site technical assistance meetings with administrators, faculty, and staff to plan for specific program implementations, problem-solve implementation obstacles, and ensure program sustainability.
• Develop, maintain, and publicize a schedule of programs and activities offered at the school.
• Implement and maintain a process that encourages referrals to programs and services offered at the school and provides timely feedback to those who make referrals.
• As needed, identify needs of chronically absent students, apply interventions, and track and monitor impact of interventions.
• Secure and coordinate, as needed, rigorous learning activities.
• Lead in the development of a Growth Mindset throughout the school community.

CBO Partnerships

• Create and oversee an outreach committee that will be responsible for recruiting, vetting, training, and acculturating CBO partners that deliver services to the school.
• Complete community assets inventories to identify viable partnerships that can meet the needs of students and families of the school’s community.
• Recruit and develop partnership agreements with people and community organizations willing to offer programs and services for students and families at the school in accordance with identified needs.
• Serve as a point person for agencies and programs interested in partnering with the school and help secure new partnerships aligned with school goals and needs.
• Develop metrics for partnership evaluation.
• Manage and supervise CBO personnel onsite, and volunteers.

Parent and Community Relations

• Support the development of a robust parent community through team building
• Identify and secure resources that support parent education and empowerment.
• Identify opportunities for parents to act as their children’s primary advocates.
• Cultivate and ensure the participation of diverse stakeholders and voices through regular, positive communication with stakeholders and community members.
• Regularly schedule and host forums for ongoing collaboration with members of the community, including parent leaders, school-based organizations and partnering organizations.
• Other responsibilities, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Excellent listening, writing, and public speaking skills
• Highly effective time-management, goal setting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to gather, analyze, synthesize, and communicate information from various sources.
• Excellent group-facilitation skills
• Extensive understanding of issues related to K-12 schools and education reform in NYC.
• In depth understanding of student support services
• Skilled at obtaining and utilizing student and school data to drive decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Flexibility, resourcefulness, and willingness to work evenings and weekends when required for successful and timely completion of projects.
• Ability to use discretion and judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.

• Experience with school-based program delivery and management
• Knowledge of community-based organizations and experience facilitating partnerships with these organizations
• Commitment to working effectively with school aged youth, educators, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
• Experience developing and managing budgets, producing invoices, completing purchase orders, and following financial processes as defined by the school, Replications, and/or DOE.
• Knowledgeable with technology
• Remarkable references
• Experience managing a team of professionals.
• Fluency in Spanish preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay range: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year.
