Scope: The Custodian Manager is responsible for managing the delivery/advancement of high-quality custodial services and consults with administrators to evaluate custodial services and identify opportunities for improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Conducts frequent inspections to ensure compliance with district specifications and health/safety regulations. Checks schedule and coordinate preparation/clean-up activities for special events.
· Routinely checks custodial equipment to ensure it is operational and available when needed.
· Uses performance-based safety standards to evaluate the need to replace/upgrade equipment.
· Keeps administrator/supervisor informed about workplace concerns (e.g., damaged equipment, leaks, noises, structural defects, unusual odors, etc.).
· Provides staff leadership. Establishes an appropriate level of employee autonomy. Assumes responsibility for the results of duties delegated to staff. Evaluates employee performance.
· Manages staff workloads/schedules. Trains staff in procedures to accomplish duties effectively. Fills in where needed to ensure all essential tasks are completed on time.
· Arranges for substitutes during staff absences when authorized by district personnel policies.
· Verifies/approves time sheets. (e.g., daily hours, authorized overtime, absences, etc.).
· Reorders custodial supplies as needed to maintain reliable service levels.
· Helps with the receipt of deliveries. Inspects packages. Verifies contents with packing lists.
· Complies with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) information. Ensures that materials are labeled/stored properly. Seeks advice when uncertain about product use or disposal procedures.
· Coordinates the planning of staff development/in-service training for custodial employees.
· Cleans assigned areas. Dry mops/washes floors. Cleans furniture, fixtures, walls and windows. Provides regular/orderly removal of trash. Moves/arranges furnishings, supplies and equipment as directed. Cleans lockers. Replaces light bulbs. Sanitizes and re-supplies toilet rooms. Cleans glass, display cases, partitions, light fixtures, etc. Polishes hardware (e.g., door handles, push/kick plates, handrails, drinking fountains, etc.). Vacuums/power cleans carpets and upholstered furnishings. Spot cleans stains. Cleans floor mats/runners.
· Follows approved health/safety guidelines to clean up injuries involving chemicals, solvents, blood, body fluids and/or body tissues. Reports personal injuries that require treatment to a supervisor.
· Protects district property. Ensures that assigned work areas are secured at the end of the shift.
· Exemplifies professionalism and fosters goodwill to enhance the district’s public image.
· Contributes to an effective and positive work/learning environment. Develops mutually respectful relationships with co-workers. Maintains open/effective communications.
· Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
· Respects privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
· Takes the initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
· Prepares/maintains accurate records. Submits required paperwork on time.
· Seeks clarification when directives/expectations are unclear.
· Uses active listening and problem-solving techniques to resolve questions/concerns tactfully.
· Attends training/in-service programs as directed.
· Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma. Supervisory skills substantiated by training and/or work experience.
· Post-secondary training in a trade is advantageous.
· Ability to manage compliance with environmental, health and safety laws/regulations.
· Ability to perform physically demanding work that includes lifting/moving heavy items.
· Additional licenses/certifications deemed appropriate at the time of hire may be required.
· Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
· Demonstrates dependability/flexibility. Reacts to interruptions/emerging priorities effectively.
· Displays enthusiasm, reliability and versatility as a “hands-on” supervisor.
· Displays sufficient math skills to calculate totals, percentages, ratios, and portions accurately.

· Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
· Maintains a valid driver’s license. Meets prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district’s insurance carrier.
