Position Overview:

MP Materials is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and results-driven Director, Fixed Assets to oversee and optimize the management of our physical assets across our growing mining and manufacturing operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate tracking, valuation, and compliance of all fixed assets, from acquisition through disposal, while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in asset management practices.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and enhance comprehensive fixed asset management policies, procedures, and internal controls tailored to the unique needs of mining and manufacturing environments.
  • Lead fixed asset accounting processes, including asset capitalization, depreciation, transfers, impairments, and disposals, ensuring adherence to GAAP, and company policies.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support timely completion of audits and ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other internal control requirements.
  • Partner with operations, project teams, engineering, procurement, and IT to ensure seamless flow of asset data and documentation from project initiation through operational handover.
  • Manage and optimize the use of fixed asset management software, ERP modules (e.g., SAP), and reporting tools to improve accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.
  • Oversee periodic physical inventories and reconciliation processes of fixed assets across all sites, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing fixed asset team; build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support capital project reporting, asset forecasting, budgeting, and related analysis to drive strategic decision-making.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fixed asset accounting, asset management, or related fields, including at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proficiency in fixed asset accounting standards (GAAP), internal controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and fixed asset management tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives, managing teams, and driving process improvements.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to present complex information to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.

Desired Qualities:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting , Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications such as CPA, CMA, or equivalent.
  • Experience in large-scale mining, manufacturing, or capital-intensive industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of construction accounting, project asset management, and asset reliability best practices.
  • Familiarity with advanced asset analytics, data automation, and process digitization tools.
