The Position:
As a part of the Public Relations Department of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority, we are currently seeking a part-time Customer Service Representative to support airport tenants and passengers by responding to customer service requests, including wheelchair assistance and operation of passenger carts. Providing accurate information about airport services, facilities, ground transportation, airlines, security, baggage, and local tourism, this position also assists the Marketing and Public Relations Department with special events and logistics. While maintaining the information booth and tourism brochure inventory, he or she also monitors and responds to inquiries via the customer service and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) phone lines. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, a customer-focused attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic airport environment. ***This a fully on-site position!
***PLEASE NOTE - position averages 24-28hrs/wk. - we are currently hiring for the following schedule:
- Weekend Schedule:
Friday 1-8pm, Saturday 1-8pm, Sunday 1-8pm, Monday 11am-6pm
Responsibilities:
- Assists airline passengers with wheelchair or cart service to/from gates and throughout the TSA process and assists in any passenger needs. Keeps wheelchairs and carts sanitized and clean.
- Provides information to and answers questions from passengers and airport guests regarding airport facilities, security, TSA, ground transportation, airlines, baggage issues, directions, and tourism information. Answers customer service phone line for airport tenants, employees, and the public and responds to requests for service or assistance.
- Assists the public relations department with logistics for the public and airport tenants during special events.
- Maintains the information booth, provides information, and answers passenger questions.
- Performs related work as required.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate must be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs to assist passengers as needed. Familiarity with airport facilities, layout, local attractions, and general travel information is essential. Prior customer service experience is required, along with the ability to demonstrate professionalism, patience, empathy, and clear communication skills—both verbal and written.
This role involves frequent walking and standing, with the ability to push up to 100 pounds regularly and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Candidates must be comfortable with repetitive physical movements such as bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching. The position may involve exposure to loud environments, communicable illnesses, and occasionally difficult individuals
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent, and less than 1-year experience in customer service and providing information to the public.
Salary and Compensation:
This is a part-time position with a salary of $15.00/hour.
