Our government client is looking for a SAP Finance Business Analyst who can provide specialist SAP business analysis services to support the ongoing operation, enhancement, governance, and optimisation of finance systems and business processes. The role works closely with finance stakeholders, ICT teams, vendors, implementation partners, and business users to identify requirements, improve business processes, support system enhancements, and ensure finance systems continue to meet organisational needs. The position plays a key role in maintaining and improving SAP financial solutions and supporting the delivery of finance transformation initiatives, projects, upgrades, and continuous improvement activities.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Gather, analyse and document business requirements, translating them into practical solutions and functional specifications.
• Provide functional support for SAP finance systems, including issue resolution, enhancements, upgrades and testing activities.
• Analyse and improve finance business processes to drive standardisation, automation and compliance with governance requirements.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and liaison between business and technical teams.
• Support finance transformation projects, change initiatives, business cases, risk management and vendor engagements.
• Develop user documentation, deliver training and promote adoption of new processes and system capabilities.

Technical skills

Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications with SAP Finance or equivalent practical experience. Business Analysis certification or equivalent practical experience. Knowledge of business process modelling, requirements management, testing, and project delivery methodologies (Agile, ITIL or PRINCE2)

About the team

The Finance Systems and Support (FHS) Team is responsible for the ongoing management, support, enhancement, and governance of the organisation’s finance-related technology platforms. The team ensures that critical financial systems, including SAP and associated applications, are secure, reliable, and fit for purpose, enabling the accurate processing of financial transactions, reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities. FHS acts as the key liaison between business stakeholders, system users, vendors, and technical teams to deliver system improvements, manage incidents and service requests, coordinate testing and releases, maintain user access and security controls, and support finance transformation initiatives. The team also provides helpdesk services, user guidance, and training to ensure finance systems effectively support business operations and strategic objectives across the organisation.

Criteria

Essential criteria

• Candidate must be Australian Citizen & hold NV1, with ability to obtain NV2
• Location: Canberra preferred, remote considered
• Demonstrated experience as a Business Analyst in finance, ERP, or corporate systems environments.
• Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies, requirements gathering, and process documentation.
• Experience working with SAP Finance solutions and financial management processes.
• Proven stakeholder engagement skills, including facilitating workshops and business consultations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into solutions.
• Experience supporting testing activities (including UAT) and delivering outcomes within Agile, ITIL, or project delivery environments.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of SAP Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Asset Accounting, Travel and Budget Management.
• Experience working with government financial management frameworks. Experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance.
• Experience supporting ERP transformation or migration projects.
• Experience working with external vendors and implementation partners.
