Field AI is transforming how robots interact with the real world. We are building risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems that address the most complex challenges in robotics, unlocking the full potential of embodied intelligence. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-based architectures, and are charting a new course, with already-globally-deployed solutions delivering real-world results and rapidly improving models through real-field applications.
As our Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, you’ll be the architect of our safety culture, ensuring our cutting-edge robotics, hardware, and field-testing operations meet the highest standards of compliance and care. You’ll build scalable systems from the ground up across multiple jurisdictions, turn regulatory complexity into operational advantage, and protect our people, partners, and environment. This is your chance to lead safety at the intersection of autonomy, precision hardware, and rapid innovation.
What You’ll Get To Do
- Key area 1 - Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, CUPA, RCRA, DOT, and other applicable regulations
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and manage permitting, waste storage, and hazardous materials
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and maintain audit-readiness for inspections and documentation
- Key area 2 - Accident and Emergency Preparedness
- Be the first point of contact, lead incident investigations and corrective actions for accidents, injuries, near misses, and safety events
- Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and coordinate drills for labs, test sites, and field ops for all locations.
- Collaborate with HR on workers' comp, injury reporting, and return-to-work case management
- Key area 3 - Program Development and Implementation
- Build and maintain safety programs including IIPP, HMBP, LOTO, Hazard Communication, and battery safety protocols
- Create standardized EHS procedures for autonomous system testing, robotics labs, and prototype environments
- Implement sustainability practices and lead field-testing safety reviews for mobile robotics and autonomous platforms
- Key area 4 - Training and Culture Development
- Deliver onboarding and role-specific safety training across technical and non-technical teams
- Lead safety committee initiatives and promote a transparent, behavior-based safety culture
- Coach on use of PPE, reinforce psychological safety, and drive active hazard reporting
- Key area 5 - Metrics, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and analyze safety KPIs, incident trends, and compliance data
- Conduct root cause analysis and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Integrate safety analytics from logs, sensor data, and diagnostics into risk prediction and prevention planning
- Manage all required reporting, including OSHA 300s
What You Have
- Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of EHS experience (or Master’s + 3 years), ideally in robotics, manufacturing, or testing environments
- Strong command of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, CUPA, RCRA, DOT, and hazardous materials compliance
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs (e.g., general safety, IIPP, SPCC, SWPPP, HMBP, battery safety)
- Demonstrated ability to manage EHS across labs, autonomous systems, and field operations
- Working knowledge of lithium-ion battery risks, high-voltage systems, and electrical hazard controls
- Excellent communication, influence, and cross-functional leadership skills
- Highly organized with excellent project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to partner closely with managers, senior leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to align safety needs and strategies.
- Experience with vendor/contractor safety onboarding and oversight
- U.S. Citizenship/Person status required
The Extras That Set You Apart
- Familiarity with robotics safety standards: ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06, ISO 13849, IEC 61508
- Certifications: CSP, CHMM, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40, Cal/OSHA 510/511
- Proficiency in EHS tools (Brady Link360, MaintainX, Intelex, VelocityEHS, etc.)
