The Association for Jewish Studies, the largest membership organization of Jewish Studies professionals in the world with 2,000 members, seeks a new data-oriented professional needed to help research and communicate with individual and institutional members. This person will oversee database entry, maintenance, queries, and reports; think creatively and independently about solving database challenges; and support the Director of Membership & Conference Content, Executive Director, other staff and leadership in various data and research related responsibilities. The Membership and Database Specialist will be supervised by the Director of Membership & Conference Content.
Responsibilities include:
- manage membership database, including data entry of member, customer, and vendor information
- support staff with database issues and troubleshooting
- provide exports of audience information for mass communications in bulk email systems
- create reports and sanitize exported data for mass communications and board reports
- update donor database with member updates
- research and track institutional Jewish Studies departmental changes
- research member and vendor outreach opportunities
- provide administrative support for membership dunning and annual scholarly conference
- generate reports and data for the Board of Directors and committees
- assist in assorted office activities, as needed
- manage the AJS’s annual travel grant awards process, including reconciling receipts and payments
- ideally attend the AJS conference in-person which occurs in the third week in December every year.
Qualifications:
- outstanding organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills
- experience and great comfort working with Customer Relationship Management tools (member databases, especially YourMembership and Bloomerang), Google Suite, and Excel
- comfort with pivot tables and other more advanced Excel skills preferred
- customer-oriented approach
- sharp eye for detail
- ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities
- temperament to work in a small but fast-paced office where people wear many hats
- interest and skill in learning new technologies to facilitate office processes
- familiarity with higher education/learned societies/academic Jewish Studies a plus, but not required
This position is mainly remote, but candidates local to NYC are preferred for occasional in-person office time. Remote candidates, especially those in the US Eastern time zone, will also be considered.
Position is 15 hours/week. Flexible schedule
