ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The position of student assistant in the archives entails functioning as a Research Assistant and assisting the Director of the ENV Archives-Special Collections.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting researchers and submitting invoices to the CPP Foundation. Researchers and those placing orders for reproduction or exhibition use include but are not limited to CPP students, faculty, staff, and outside researchers and property owners). This work requires the Research Assistant to use reasoning and judgment. and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Have an aptitude to organize and house archival collections, using standard archival procedures. While previous knowledge of archival procedures is not required since the Director will provide instruction in this area, the applicant must demonstrate organizational skills in their schoolwork or previous job experience.
- Must be able to assist with the preparation and installation of exhibitions
- Provide general assistance with the maintenance of the archives; this may entail occasional sweeping of the floors, dusting cabinets, etc.
- Familiarity with Excel and other Microsoft Word products.
- Applicant must be able to lift boxes to 20 lbs and carry them short distances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant needs to have previous job experience, education record, and/or skills that reflect an understanding of archival materials, including their significance and best methods of handling them, especially works on paper (photographs, drawings, manuscript materials).
- Time requirement 5-8 hours per week. This may be extended during academic breaks or over the summer. A weekly schedule will be based on the student's academic schedule and/or availability.
- Hours Monday/ Thursday Mornings 9:00am- 1:00 pm
