The Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics (PERA) Department is seeking an individual with experience in working within a community of diverse students and colleagues. Successful candidates will by their administrative, professional skills, leadership and service demonstrate they can contribute to the diversity and excellence of athletics, the department and our community.
The PERA Department is currently accepting applications for a .90 FTE (July-June) appointment as Assistant Softball Coach. This part-time faculty position includes full benefits and is appointed on an annual basis. The Assistant Softball Coach will support the Head Coach in the comprehensive management of the softball program. This position plays a key role in developing student-athletes both on and off the field while helping to maintain the program’s competitive and academic standards. Additional duties include athletic contest management in the fall.
Softball Responsibilities:
- Pitching knowledge is preferred but not required
- Supporting the planning and execution of practices and game-day preparations
- Attending all scheduled practices, games, and team events
- Providing academic and athletic support for student-athletes
Assisting with recruiting efforts, including:
- Communicating with prospective student-athletes via phone and email
- Organizing official visits
- Managing recruiting databases
- Traveling for recruiting events
Conducting practice and game analysis, including:
- Scouting opponents
- Videotaping practices, pitchers, and other key areas for performance review
- Maintaining and managing team equipment
- Monitoring and tracking the recruiting budget
- Organizing and executing fundraising activities
- Assisting with team social media and promotion to enhance program visibility and engagement
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach Contest
Managment Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance for game-day operations and facility readiness to ensure a first-class experience at athletic contests
- Responsible for set up, in game operations and breakdown of equipment
- Supervision of student workers
Requirements:
- A bachelors degree is required but a masters degree is preferred.
- 1-2 years college coaching experience preferred.
- College or professional playing experience preferred.
- USPTA or USPTR certification and completion of the USTA High Performance Coaching Program is preferred.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required upon hire.
Salary and Start Date: The Assistant Softball Coach is a .90 FTE benefit eligible faculty position with a salary of $34,445 and September 1st start date.
