The Director of Athletics serves as an educational leader who embodies and champions the mission, vision, and core values of Saint Dominic Academy. Focused on promoting lifelong health and wellness through athletics, the Director oversees athletic programs for girls in grades 7–12. The Director is expected to positively represent the school both on and off campus, fostering strong community relationships and school spirit. Additionally, this role supports students throughout their academic and athletic journeys, helping them grow as well-rounded individuals and leaders. The AD may coach one season.
Personnel Management
- Recruit, recommend, supervise, and evaluate coaches; set stipends with the Head of School and Business Office.
- Lead pre-season meetings to review philosophy, expectations, and policies.
Policies and Procedures
- Oversee and enforce all interscholastic policies and NJSIAA/HCIAL rules.
- Represent the school at league, conference, and state meetings.
- Maintain and update the Athletics and Coaches Handbooks; recommend policy changes.
- Maintain cumulative competition records for each program
Financial Oversight
- Prepare and manage the athletic budget with input from coaches and the Business Office.
- Lead coaches contract negotiations.
- Oversee the distribution, maintenance, and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
- Support funding efforts in partnership with Advancement and school leadership.
Student Experience
- Support students in their athletic and academic journey; mediate between athletes, families, and coaches.
- Maintain records of participation, achievements, and disciplinary actions.
- Propose and evaluate student leadership expectations.
- Coordinate with the student government athletic chair to promote sporting events and encourage attendance.
Program Operations
- Develop and share game schedules; coordinate officials, transportation, and logistics.
- Ensure safe and equitable arrangements for all athletic events; manage cancellations as needed.
- Arrange and secure offsite facilities for practices, games, etc.
Communication and Promotion
- Ensure clear communication with teams and families, academic office and head of school
- Plan and supervise athletic awards events; ensure clear communication with teams and families.
- Attend Hudson County AD meetings.
- Update as needed policies to correspond with state and local requirements
- Support enrollment process; in consultation with the director of admission, respond as needed to specific inquiries.
- Promote athletic program and school at Admission Open Houses and other external scholar leader recruitment events
- Engage with prospective donors where needed for specific donors
- Promote and help organize the school 5k: Spring Thaw
- Promote teams and results through league websites, NJ.com, and school channels.
- Provide weekly updates on contests, practices, and highlights.
- Perform other duties as assigned (e.g., study hall, test proctoring).
Skills
- Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal communication.
- Technologically proficient (Google Suite).
- Knowledge of NCAA, NJSIAA, NFHS rules and regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; detail-oriented and self-motivated.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of coaching and teaching experience.
- Proven leadership and mentorship abilities with youth athletes and coaches.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certifications.
