Job Summary:
First Presbyterian Church of Howard County is seeking a dependable Sexton to help maintain our church building and grounds. This role includes light cleaning, facility upkeep, event setup, basic maintenance, and supporting the church’s day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with cleaning and landscaping services
- Perform minor repairs, routine maintenance, and inventory checks
- Monitor and report issues with building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)
- Set up/take down rooms for events (worship, weddings, funerals, etc.)
- Maintain safety standards and building security
- Support Sunday services (make coffee, clean dishes, unlock/lock building)
- Assist with deliveries, volunteers, and contractors
- Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to a welcoming environment
Requirements:
- High school diploma
- 3+ years facility or maintenance experience
- Basic plumbing, carpentry, janitorial, and groundskeeping skills
- Ability to lift/move heavy items and work on ladders
- Strong communication and reliability skills
Scheduling:
Job will include Sundays, occasional evenings and special events. There is some flexibility in scheduling.
