Job Details:
Schedule: Monday through Thursday from 4:40 am to 2:40 pm or until complete. Some Friday work may be required based upon trial needs. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary:
  • This position is responsible for handling birds and equipment for selection process by performing all essential duties in rotation with others. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and setup for selection process by loading coops and equipment into truck/trailer for transport to brothe oding area and unload at the designated house, setup equipment for selection process per instructions (10%)
  • Select birds by performing the following duties: Isolate no more than 200 birds into catch frame for selection as many times as necessary until all birds are selected; catch birds per animal welfare standards; identify gender; verify line by observing wing band color; hold clean wing band under scanner for data entry; place bird in scale cone to obtain weight repeating multiple times until complete; monitor bird groups and “stir” to avoid crowding per animal welfare guidelines; place birds received from selector in designated location such as market pen, breeder candidate coop per gender, full dissect, leg dissect based upon characteristics as instructed by selector. If designated as market remove wing bands and mark head with colored food grade dye prior to placing in area designated for market birds multiple times until complete (60%)
  • Load, transport, and unload coops of birds to feed conversion house and/or dissection lab (10%)
  • Euthanize off condition birds using the cervical dislocation method based upon animal welfare guidelines (10%)
Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Move partitions, back trailer, clean and sanitize equipment for movement between areas per biosecurity requirements, operate a high pressure and regular water hose, maintain equipment by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris, maintains foot pans and hand sanitizer, maintains a clean and organized work area. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly catch, carry, and control individual birds weighing from 3.5 to 12 pounds, lift and move empty coops weighing up to 16 pounds each, buddy lift and carry coops with birds weighing up to 88 pounds, and pull/push stacks of coops with birds weighing up to 360 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment: Requires use of hand tools such as wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, broom, squeegee, shovel, counter; power tools such as cordless drill; equipment such as catch frames, scales, tables, scanners, extension cords, coops; safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Must wear company provided facial covering. Ear plugs, arm protectors, and NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators may be worn as desired.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants, vehicle fluids, and lubricants.
  • Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
