Director of Accounts Receivable
London, UK (Hybrid, 3 days per week in-office)
The Director of Accounts Receivable will lead the accounts receivable (AR) function within a matrixed organizational structure, driving the strategic and operational management of the AR process. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate cash collections while fostering and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional business unit leaders to align AR strategies with organizational goals. The role will focus on developing and implementing process improvements, optimizing AR systems and procedures, and enhancing team performance through effective leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the accounts receivable function, ensuring timely and accurate collections.
- Develop and execute AR strategies that align with organizational objectives and support financial targets.
- Foster strong relationships with customers to support efficient collections and resolve disputes.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report results and trends to senior leadership.
- Collaborate across departments—including Sales, Finance, and Operations—to resolve issues and streamline processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of AR operations.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing AR team, setting goals, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
- Contribute to finance and business projects such as ERP roadmap planning and business intelligence (BI) development.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and standardization to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
- 5–7 years of experience managing leaders of AR teams, with a demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams and lead through others.
- Proven experience in finance, accounting, or operations management with a strong track record of driving process improvement.
- Experience with collections processes — B2B collections strongly preferred, though open to any collections background with demonstrated results.
- Proficiency in financial systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to long-term operational and financial planning.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire others.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments and with external customers.
