Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) will act as a point of contact and trusted resource to provide knowledgeable support, coaching and counseling to associates and managers throughout the organization on a broad range of HR topics. This role will understand, support and leverage the capabilities and resources of HR, Safety, Organizational Development (OD), Training and Continuous Improvement team members to help guide managers in effectively leading their teams to achieve business goals. The HRBP will play a key role in ensuring effective onboarding, training, development and performance management throughout the organization. They will identify people-related opportunities and lead or collaborate on projects and initiatives to pursue them. They will ensure consistency and effectiveness of company policies and procedures, providing coaching to managers to effectively handle employee issues.
The HRBP will partner with the HR team and others to build and promote an environment of open communication, productive working relationships, recognition of high performance, opportunity for training and career development, consistent focus on safety, and engagement of associates in accountability and personal ownership for business objectives. They will establish regular touchpoints throughout the organization, maintaining fingers on the pulse of attitudes and morale. They will aim to promote maintenance and enhancement of positive elements of the culture at RSC.
Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Manager Support
- Partners with front-line supervisors, managers, and senior management, providing necessary HR support in alignment with business objectives.
- Provides coaching, consultation and training to managers and associates on HR-related subjects, systems and processes.
- Provides ongoing performance management guidance to managers (coaching, career development, disciplinary actions, documentation, etc.).
- Partners with managers and associates to navigate and resolve complex employee relations issues, including those relating to conflict resolution and progressive discipline. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations as necessary.
- Makes actionable recommendations to managers on the best ways to manage employees while mitigating risk, protecting company interests and ensuring fairness and consistency.
Strategic Partnerships
- Collaborates with and serves as a backup to the HR Generalist, including backup and support for payroll, benefits and HRIS processes.
- Works with Department Managers, HR Director, OD Director and Talent Acquisition to evaluate and address staffing needs, including some participation in interview & selection processes.
- Works closely with managers, new associates, HR & OD teams in ensuring effective onboarding processes.
- Collaborates with OD team in identifying and addressing opportunities for learning, training, and career development of associates, as well as opportunities to address team dynamics and promote positive workplace relationships.
- Collaborates with the Safety Manager in helping identify opportunities and drive safety initiatives throughout the organizations and plays a role in incident response.
- Works closely with HR Director on identifying, setting and driving HR projects and strategic initiatives.
- Identifies and establishes appropriate cross-functional relationships and collaborations to utilize strengths and expertise necessary for successful projects and initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
- Engages with associates and monitors trends to understand and improve the employee experience and partners with HR team and others to develop culture and engagement enhancement strategies.
- Ensures consistency and effectiveness of the annual review & development process, identifying needs and helping drive performance improvement and development of associates.
- Helps ensure effective exit process for departing associates including completion of exit interviews and follow-up as appropriate.
- With guidance of HR Director, observes all applicable employment laws and ensures all regulatory compliance, utilizing outside resources and legal support as necessary.
- Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation to associates, identifying policy enhancements as needed.
- Contributes to ensuring effective HR processes and communication.
- Performs job evaluations and writes and/or edits job descriptions as necessary.
- Remains current with applicable human resources laws, regulations, trends and best practices through ongoing self-development and educational efforts
- Maintains the highest level of confidentiality in all activities involving personnel matters or handling of other sensitive information
- Actively promotes organizational policies, values, practices and standards, with particular emphasis on Purpose 27
Qualifications
- 5+ years of HR experience with emphasis on employee relations
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
- Master’s degree in HR and/or PHR Certification strongly preferred
- Demonstrated and broad knowledge of Human Resources principles, procedures and practices
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable employment laws
- Strong ability to build relationships and work with all levels of management and employees in a professional manner
- Ability to develop a deep understanding of the business and apply strong strategic thinking
- Prior experience in a field operations-based workforce is ideal
- High level of initiative, work ethic, and commitment to completing responsibilities effectively
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 software and capabilities
- Proficiency with ADP systems a plus
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Must communicate effectively and consistently demonstrate a positive and helpful demeanor and approach
- Must be capable of effectively handling and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Frequent travel to branch locations in Columbus, OH & Louisville, KY (limited overnight stays)
