Compensation Range: $5,000 – $8,000, commensurate with experience and team assignment (Varsity or JV).

UHS is located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
Position Overview:
University High School is seeking energetic and dedicated Assistant Coaches for its Junior Varsity and Frosh-Soph Girls Volleyball teams. These part-time, seasonal roles are ideal for individuals who love teaching the game, mentoring student-athletes, and supporting a positive, team-first culture. Assistant Coaches work under the direction of the JV or Frosh-Soph Head Coach to support the development of players at various skill levels while reinforcing the values of respect, accountability, and sportsmanship.
The ideal candidates will bring enthusiasm, patience, and a growth mindset—both on and off the court. These roles are central to helping student-athletes develop confidence, skills, and a lifelong love for the game.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and execution of daily practices and match-day responsibilities.
- Support the Head Coach in building a team environment centered on effort, improvement, and respect.
- Help lead warm-ups, skill development drills, and game simulations in practice.
- Provide feedback and encouragement to student-athletes during matches and throughout the season.
- Reinforce team standards and support a safe and inclusive athletic environment.
- Collaborate with the JV or Frosh-Soph Head Coach and Athletic Department to meet team needs.
- Uphold University High School, Bay Counties League–West, and North Coast Section guidelines and expectations.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of athletes before, during, and after practices and matches.
- Assist in communication with athletes and families, as appropriate, under the guidance of the Head Coach.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Prior playing and/or coaching experience at the youth, club, high school, or collegiate level.
- Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and competitive play.
- Ability to communicate clearly, positively, and constructively with young athletes.
- Can demonstrate drills and participate in practice activities when necessary.
- Strong organizational skills and a willingness to take initiative.
- CPR and First Aid certifications required (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
