K-6 Academic Intervention Specialist

Position Overview:
The K-6 Academic Intervention Specialist is a highly qualified educator with expertise in literacy and mathematics instruction. This position focuses on supporting K-6 students who require supplemental or intensive academic interventions, particularly through Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports, to meet or exceed grade-level standards. The specialist works to develop a student-centered system of interventions that address learning gaps and promote academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, targeted instruction in reading and mathematics to students performing below grade-level benchmarks.
- Design and implement data-informed intervention plans tailored to students' individual learning needs and aligned with the district curriculum and state standards.
- Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and other support staff to ensure coherence between classroom instruction and interventions.
- Administer, score, and analyze diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to guide instruction and determine intervention eligibility and effectiveness.
- Monitor student progress through platforms such as Panorama; adjust instruction and student groupings as needed based on data.
- Participate in data team meetings, MTSS processes, and professional learning communities to evaluate intervention outcomes.
- Communicate student progress, intervention plans, and instructional strategies with families and educational teams.
- Leverage technology for instructional planning, progress monitoring, and data reporting.
- Maintain detailed and timely documentation of interventions and outcomes.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to stay current on research-based practices in intervention, literacy, mathematics, and data-driven instruction.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa teaching license with a K-6 Elementary Education Reading or Math endorsement preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Education (Master's degree preferred).
- Successful teaching experience in a K-6 educational setting (three to five years of experience preferred).
- Demonstrated knowledge in scientifically based reading and mathematics instruction.
- Proficiency in the administration and analysis of academic assessments to inform instruction.
- Understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including the delivery of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and student populations.
- Knowledge of instructional technologies and tools used for tracking and analyzing student performance.
- Familiarity with commonly used assessment tools (e.g., FAST, i-Ready, NWEA MAP).
