Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This role involves managing and ensuring proper processing of medical bills related to legal settlements, confirming accurate and timely billing to all insurance sources, and providing exceptional support to clients throughout the balance verification and settlement process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and lien companies to review and ensure proper processing of medical bills
- Handle insurance collections efforts, including claim status inquiries and appeals.
- Ensure accurate coding and billing practices in compliance with legal and medical standards.
- Request, track, and review medical records and bills to ensure completeness and accuracy for case evaluation.
- Communicate with insurance adjusters, and medical providers to facilitate negotiations and settlements.
- Maintain meticulous records in the case management system (Clio) and ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures. Organize and manage case files, ensuring all documents are properly stored and accessible.
- Work closely with attorneys, case managers, and other team members to ensure cases are handled effectively. Provide administrative support to attorneys and managers as needed.
- Work closely with attorneys to manage settlement disbursements.
- Ensure settlement funds cover all medical expenses and are distributed appropriately.
- Maintain detailed records of all settlement-related transactions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- 3+ years of healthcare accounts receivable, insurance collections, insurance billing, medical and records review experience is required.
- Prior legal experience in personal injury law or subrogation law is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, claim adjudication, and payment structures
- Experience working directly with payors to resolve outstanding balances
- Familiarity with claim resubmissions, appeals, and denial management
- Comfort handling high-volume phone and electronic communication with insurance companies, subrogation companies, and provider offices.
- Intermediate Microsoft 365 skills.
- Ability to work independently, remotely, and in a fast-paced, evolving environment
