Position Summary:
The Maintenance staff member is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, safety, and cleanliness of the center’s facility and grounds. This role supports the health and safety of children and staff by ensuring all areas are clean, well-maintained, and in compliance with licensing and health regulations. Daily tasks and assignments are managed by the Program Administrator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete basic repairs and maintenance tasks throughout the center, including doors, walls, furniture, toys, and light plumbing fixtures.
Assist with scheduling and preparation for annual fire extinguisher servicing and fire sprinkler system inspections.
Maintain cleanliness in all shared spaces including classrooms, bathrooms (children and adult), kitchen, laundry area, and multipurpose room.
Conduct regular playground safety checks and report any hazards immediately.
Monitor and restock maintenance and cleaning supplies, notifying the Program Administrator of inventory needs.
Collect and dispose of trash and recycling; clean up spills or messes as needed.
Assist with setup and breakdown of center furniture, classroom changes, and events.
Support logistics and unloading for monthly food distribution deliveries.
Communicate daily with the Program Administrator regarding tasks, repairs, and facility needs.
Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures as outlined by DCF and center policies.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the daily operations of the center.
Requirements:Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in maintenance, custodial, or facility care work is strongly preferred.
Basic knowledge of repairs, cleaning standards, and the safe use of tools and cleaning products.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to facility needs promptly.
Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform duties involving standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
Must pass all DCF background screenings and meet center health and safety requirements.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
Regular exposure to cleaning products, noise, and physical labor.
Must be able to respond flexibly to the needs of a busy childcare facility.
