Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a passion for providing exceptional patient service. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical office, supporting both clinical and administrative functions. The Medical Office Assistant will be responsible for managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and assisting with various medical office tasks.
Responsibilities
- Manage patient intake processes, including collecting necessary information and documentation.
- Schedule appointments and manage the front desk operations efficiently.
- Handle medical billing and coding tasks, ensuring accurate use of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations while managing sensitive patient information.
- Conduct insurance verification and assist patients with understanding their benefits.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document patient interactions.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness before filing in medical records.
- Provide clerical support including filing, typing, and managing multi-line phone systems.
- Assist in the preparation of care plans and coordinate with healthcare providers as needed.
- Deliver excellent customer service to patients, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, coding (ICD-9, ICD-10), and billing processes is essential.
- Proficiency in using EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks is highly desirable.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; typing proficiency required (10 key typing is a plus).
- Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of health information management practices and HIPAA compliance is required.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation review.
