Summary: The Outreach and Prevention Educator is responsible for providing age and developmentally appropriate prevention education programs to community members in our service area to address issues related to the agency’s mission and services.
Responsibilities:
- Solicit and coordinate prevention education presentations to students and educational professionals for pre-K – 12 and college
- Solicit and coordinate in-services, professional trainings, and awareness presentations for professionals at area agencies, churches, and other civic groups
- Organize training on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault for law enforcement officials, health care providers and others throughout the service area in conjunction with other staff members
- Plan and execute two in-person awareness month vigils annually as well as additional in-person and online awareness activities throughout the year
- Create, modify and maintain curriculum and presentation materials utilizing empirical data and up-to-date statistics and research
- Maintain library of curriculum resource material including books, videos, written curricula, apps, and newsletters
- Collaborate with the Communications Associate to develop digital programming and videos to supplement prevention education and awareness programming
- Collaborate with the Communications Associate to create engaging and mission-aligned content for all social media platforms, while staying current with evolving social media trends.
- Collaborate with the Communications Associate to create and maintain content for education and awareness related web pages on the agency website
- Collect data and provide statistics, program updates, participant feedback and, when appropriate, photographs and videos for agency publications and program tracking
- Maintain statistics for funders according to funding guidelines
- Attend monthly staff meetings and other relevant agency meetings as requested by coordinators
- Attend statewide CCADV and CT Alliance to End Sexual Violence Community Educator meetings
- Attend staff in-services to maintain certification by statute
- Attend outreach and awareness events that periodically occur outside of traditional business hours
- Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the agency
Qualifications:
- Education may have been gained through college courses and relevant training, employment, or volunteer experiences; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual/bicultural encouraged
- Classroom management experience strongly preferred
- Some knowledge of counseling, social services, and public speaking
- Obtain and maintain certification as a DV/SA counselor in accordance with statutory requirements, including completing
- Strong commitment to Susan B. Anthony Project’s mission
- Willingness to understand the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence work
- Willingness to understand and incorporate an historical and current event perspective of domestic /sexual violence into the work
- Willingness to work with other agencies, systems, Boards and volunteers
- Willingness to work in cross-collaboration with other agency departments within the agency
- Willingness to work with diverse populations
- Effective verbal and written skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office platforms
- Use of positive communications and conflict resolution
- Ability to lift and move 25 pounds
- Patience and a sense of humor
