We are seeking an experienced Multi-state Payroll Manager to join our growing team. This is a fully remote position, and the ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience managing payroll for employees across multiple states.
You will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accurate and timely weekly processing of payroll, compliance with federal and state labor laws. This position is critical in supporting the Finance and HR Teams in maintaining operational efficiency and payroll accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing – accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees in multiple states.State Compliance – Ensure adherence to state specific payroll tax laws, including withholding rates, garnishments, and other deductions. Stay updated on any state-specific regulatory changes.
- Reporting and Reconciliation – Prepare and review payroll report for management making sure all data is accurate and up to date.
- Audit & Compliance – Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal labors laws, and assist with internal and external audits related to payroll.
- System Management – Oversee the payroll software platform to ensure functionality, security, and date integrity. Work with payroll provider to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Employee Inquires – Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees in a timely professional manner.
- Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to streamline payroll processing across states.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or HR or CPP Certification
- 5+ years ADP experience with at least 2+ years in a supervisory/ managerial role
- Multi-state payroll experience
- Knowledge of different tax and labor laws
- Experience with M&A a plus, but not required
- Solid understanding of state and federal tax regs, FLSA, garnishments, year-end reporting for w-2 and 1099s
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Experience managing tight deadlines and high-volume workloads
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information
- Strong collaboration skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications – Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other relevant payroll certifications and experience.
- Industry Experience – Experience working in small to midsize and growing, complex organizations or multi-state environment.
- 5+ Years of workforce experience
